The speaker suddenly leaned back on the headrest and began to scream: they say, remove it! Who needs to be removed, none of the crew of the nuclear submarine, including the author of these lines, knew. Something was really croaking in the earpiece, leaning against my ear. It turns out that acoustics, like a mania, pursued the sounds of unidentified underwater objects, the so-called "Quakers" …

Almost nothing is known about them, about these invisible ones croaking across the ocean. Nobody can say what this phenomenon is either - nobody has seen it. They began to be heard several decades ago, when more or less sensitive hydroacoustic equipment appeared on submarines.

In the 70s of the last century, the so-called unidentified floating objects and "Quakers" began to bother the command of the Soviet Navy. During the intelligence department of the Navy, a special group was even created to systematize and analyze all inexplicable phenomena occurring in the World Ocean. The officers charged with collecting information traveled through the fleets, collecting everything that at least somehow related to the problem. A series of ocean expeditions were even organized.

In the early 1980s, the Quaker program was closed. The group was disbanded, and all the accumulated materials and developments on the topic disappeared in the naval archives under the heading "Top secret". It remains unclear why the group was disbanded so abruptly, and what did they learn about the Quakers? Alas, this information is still closed. As far as we know, such a group also existed in the United States, but the results of its activities are also terribly classified.

There were known cases when these mysterious objects stubbornly pursued our submarines, and this pursuit was accompanied by characteristic acoustic signals reminiscent of the croaking of a frog, which is why, in fact, the submariners called them "Quakers".

That was the height of the Cold War. The military, among other things, suspected that miniature American reconnaissance submarines were croaking, or stationary objects, the purpose of which was to track the boat of a potential enemy. Every year the Quakers met more and more often, as a rule, starting from a depth of 200 meters.

Their range of action has expanded from the Barents Sea to the North Atlantic. However, the version about the man-made origin of the mysterious underwater sounds was discarded: even the wealthy USA cannot afford such expenses. Imagine how much you need to spend to entangle the entire ocean with wires …

Those who actually heard the Quakers had a strong impression of awareness of the actions of unknown sources of sound. It might even seem that the Quakers, appearing out of nowhere, were persistently trying to establish contact. Judging by the continuously changing bearing, they circled around our submarines and, changing the tone and frequency of the signals, as if they were inviting submariners to talk, actively responding to hydroacoustic "messages."

Promotional video:

In fact, the Quakers themselves posed no threat to submarines as such. Another thing is that some hydroacoustics developed a kind of mania - they were afraid to take over the watch. They were afraid of the mysterious sounds of the Quakers …

Accompanying our boats, they followed side by side until they left some area, and then, croaking for the last time, disappeared as imperceptibly as they appeared. And, moreover, in the opinion of many famous submariners, the impression was even created that the “Quakers” were actively demonstrating their friendliness.

Some of the former employees of the disbanded Mysterious Sound Study Group believe that "Quakers" are unknown living beings with a sufficiently high level of intelligence. This is quite likely, because evidence of unknown inhabitants of the ocean depths abounds. Who knows, maybe it's a subspecies of some giant eel or even a plesiosaur. The presence of senses operating in the acoustic range makes it possible that the "Quakers" have some cetacean traits, and then their interest in submarines is understandable.

The Quakers vanished as suddenly as they appeared. They appeared in the early 70s, the peak of reports about them occurred in 1975-1980, and then within five years they simply disappeared. Since the 90s of the last century, there has not been a single official report of meetings with them.

There is also a version that the "Quakers" were some kind of alien submarines. Perhaps it was the aliens who accompanied the submarines sailing over their submarine bases, and escorted the boats to the exit from these areas.

In general, we can only guess why the research stopped so suddenly and who is hiding under the name "Quakers" - living creatures still unknown to science, secret US intelligence facilities or alien submarines …

More than two decades ago, on October 6, 1986, the Soviet nuclear submarine K-219 sank in the Sargasso Sea, in the infamous Bermuda Triangle. The disaster was one of the most severe losses for the Russian navy.

The cause of the accident was an explosion in a missile silo, but the circumstances of this incident have so far caused confusion and controversy among specialists. The accident began with a "crushed" rocket, rocket fuel leaks into the compartment. As a result of experimental checks, simulations of the situation and careful analysis, it was proved that this was not the fault of the crew. This means that the reasons are either purely technical, or it is the influence of external factors.

Why was the rocket crushed? How did the water get into the missile silo hull? There are photographs in official records that confirm that a deep furrow ran through the K-219 hull. It was she who broke the tightness of the mine. It was she who allowed the outboard water to crush the rocket. The question is, who rammed the boat? The fact that such an "external factor" was a foreign submarine is just an assumption.

As always, there are two versions of what happened: the official and the unofficial. According to an unofficial version, about which a famous submariner, captain of the first rank Nikolai Alekseevich Tushin (now, unfortunately, deceased), told the author of these lines a few years ago, an unidentified underwater object was directly related to the accident.

He said that experienced sailors are quite serious about talking about underwater "unidentified objects". According to Tushin, he himself, like many submarine commanders, saw glowing balls and cylinders in the ocean. Almost every submariner has such a "cherished" story.

But somehow it is not accepted especially to spread on these topics … You never know what in the autonomous system will dream? Moreover, very few people recorded such encounters with such objects “on instruments” … Captain Tushin was sure that “K-219” was drowned by the same mysterious force, but in those days it was not customary to speak about it out loud, therefore “anomalous” the version was announced only years after the disaster. So, unidentified underwater objects, like the "Quakers", remain unsolved secrets of the World Ocean …
