How many secrets does our planet hide? Probably not to count, but scientists do not sit idly by and sometimes they are lucky. This happened in Mexico, when the research group managed to find not some small figurine, but a whole palace, which was carefully hidden by the jungle on the island of Yutakan.

The buildings were discovered last year, but because of the dense vegetation and inaccessibility, it took the staff of the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico almost a year to clear the plants and land, and only relatively recently they (scientists) officially confirmed that the discovered complex is related to ancient Maya.

The largest building (palace) of the entire excavated complex has the following dimensions: 55 meters long, 15 meters wide, and 6 meters high. It was also possible to find out that the building was erected between 600 and 900 years of our era and was actively used until 1050 of our era.

On the territory of the complex, it was also possible to find several ceramic and obsidian items identical to those found in the most important city of antiquity, Chichen Itza.

It was found that the artifacts have one production location. This made it possible to establish a connection between the city and the complex.

In addition to the palace, four buildings have also survived. Two of them were ordinary residential buildings. An altar was discovered in the third building, which suggested that it was a temple. And the fourth building was round with an oven in the center. Most likely, this is an ancient workshop.

The excavation season in this area is in full swing and what else archaeologists will be able to unearth is unknown. But already now, many experts recognize the year as a successful one.
