In Romania, you can find what seems absolutely impossible: stones that can grow and even move! The so-called "trovantes" have puzzled scientists and experts ever since they were discovered.
There are many legends around these stones, and some even consider them a special form of life. Conscious form!
Some scientists claim that stones can breathe. True, this is a very slow process - one inhalation or exhalation takes from three to fourteen days. Moreover, they are able to move about 1 mm per week.
A whole “settlement” of Trovantes was discovered in Romania. All of them have a rounded streamline shape.
Locals claim that, among other things, living stones are capable of multiplying! First, processes appear on them, which, as they grow, fall off from the "mother" stone. Having gone into an "independent life", the pebbles begin to grow faster. And when it rains, the stones literally increase in size before our eyes.
Scientists believe that this reaction to precipitation is related to the structure of the stones, which are composed of sandstone and mineral salts.
Interestingly, rings can be observed inside the stone, which, like trees, tell about its age. That is why a number of researchers argue that Trovantes are a kind of inorganic life.

Most of the trowans are located near the Romanian resort of Costinesti. In 2004, the Twiantilor Museum or Trovants Museum Nature Reserve was founded to protect this geological wonder. Here you can buy an unusual pebble, "plant" it in your garden and wait for the coming rain. The largest stones can grow up to 10 meters in height!
