This story began in a godforsaken wilderness, in the impenetrable jungle of British Honduras (now Belize), on the Yucatan Peninsula in 1924. A group of archaeologists led by Mitchell-Hedges excavated the ancient Mayan city in the rainforest. To facilitate excavations, workers hired by the expedition set fire to a forest in a predetermined area. When the smoke cleared, the remains of a pyramid, stone walls and a huge amphitheater with seating for thousands of spectators were revealed under a layer of ash over an area of 33 hectares. Mitchell Hedges called this ancient city Lubaatun - the City of Fallen Stones.

At the end of the next season of excavation, the expedition was joined by Mitchell-Hedges' daughter, Anne, who in April 1927 (on the day of her 17th birthday) retrieved an object that became a sensation from the stones that had fallen from the wall onto the altar. Ann has discovered a polished quartz human skull! The lower jaw was missing, but three months later it was found and it was seven to eight meters from the place where the skull lay.

It is not unusual for archaeologists that the ancients used quartz to decorate their works of art or religious worship. In Egyptian mummies, for example, quartz was used to represent the "third eye". In the museum of the Mexican city of Oaxaca, there is a whole collection of quartz trinkets: gear wheels, hairpins, etc.

In 1964, five years after her father's death, Anne donated the skull to the art critic Dorland for study. He made several plaster copies of the skull and a huge number of photographs using a microscope and special attachments. According to measurements, the skull had 125.4 x 203.4 millimeters and weighed 5.13 kilograms. Dorland found that the skull was made from a solid quartz crystal! The surface did not have the slightest traces of any processing with metal tools and was, apparently, polished with a special paste, the secret of which has not reached us. It is surprising that in ancient times someone had so much free time to make and polish a skull. Even by the most conservative estimates, this work should have taken at least 300 years!

Inside the back of the skull, Dorland discovered a whole system of prisms and channels. Thanks to them, the skull and its eye sockets began to glow when an external light source, such as a torch or candle, was installed under it. With the help of a thread passed through narrow holes, the lower jaw could move. Imagine what effect such a skull could cause in a temple when it was shown to a crowd in ecstasy ?!

Before returning the priceless find to its owner, Dorland decided to show the skull to Hewlett-Packard, a well-known quartz expert and a well-known manufacturer of crystal oscillators. The opinion of the engineer of the firm L. Barre deserves to be cited almost completely: … We studied the skull along all three optical axes and found that it consists of three or four joints. Since each joint has its own axes, we were able to determine how many aggregates.

Analyzing the aggregates, we found that they grow from one center and form a single continuous crystal. We also found that the skull was carved from a single piece of crystal along with the lower jaw. On the Mohs scale, rock crystal has a high hardness of seven (second only to topaz, corundum and diamond). As for processing, it cannot be cut with anything other than a diamond. But the ancients somehow managed to process it. And not only the skull itself - they cut out the lower jaw and the hinges on which it is suspended from the same piece. With such a hardness of the material, this is more than mysterious, and here is why: in crystals, if they consist of more than one intergrowth, there are internal stresses. When you press on the crystal with the head of the cutter, due to the stress, the crystal can split into pieces, so it cannot be cut - it will just split. But someone crafted this skull from one piece of crystal so carefully, as if he hadn't touched it at all during the cutting process.

When examining the surface of the skull, we found evidence of exposure to three different abrasives. The final finishing is made by polishing. We also found a kind of prism carved into the back of the skull, at the base of the skull, so that any ray of light entering the eye sockets is reflected back into them. Look into his eye sockets and you can see the whole room … I don't think anyone else at Hewlett-Packard has a better understanding of the skull structure than myself …"

Hewlett-Packard, on the other hand, made the following statement, albeit in a less formal style: “The damn thing shouldn't have existed at all. Those who carved it had no idea about crystallography and completely ignored the axes of symmetry. It inevitably had to fall apart during processing!"

The technology of making a crystal skull is still unsolved. But this is not the only secret of the strange find. It is completely incomprehensible who could have made such a perfect thing in ancient times. Mitchell-Hedges himself, being a supporter of the hypothesis of the existence of a sunken Atlantis, considered the crystal skull to be an Atlantean jewelry.

The scientists did not dare to determine the exact age of the find. Maybe his homeland is really legendary Atlantis? One thing is clear: he keeps in himself many secrets, which it is not known whether anyone will ever be able to unravel it.

Anna Mitchell-Hedges, after the discovery of the skull, apparently fell in love with it so much that she did not want to be separated from it even for the night, and kept it at the head of the bed. In the morning, she told me what strange dreams she had. She could retell them in detail. Colorful, voiced films about the life of ancient Indian tribes. Quite interesting and informative. At first, no one thought to associate dreams with a crystal find. However, every night the girl continued in a dream to learn more and more details of the life of ancient civilizations. Much was unknown even to historians. Anna clearly heard the conversations of the Indians, watched their daily activities, studied ritual sacrifices. When the skull was removed away from the girl, the "interesting movie" stopped. Psychics, observing the "behavior" of the skull, noticedthat he occasionally changes color and degree of transparency, sometimes suddenly surrounds himself with a luminous halo, sometimes he emits an incomprehensible smell, from which a feeling of thirst appears. They even say that it emits low, high-pitched sounds, very similar to the play of silver bells.

Undoubtedly, the magic skull affects everyone who approaches it, but it affects different people in different ways. Some immediately began to experience discomfort and sudden attacks of fear. Some even fainted or lost their memory for a while. Others, on the contrary, were seized by an unprecedented calmness and bliss. There are people who claim that the skull cured them of serious illnesses. Those who touched the "crystal head" say that in different places it became very cold, then hot, or a slight vibration was felt.

Who could this skull belong to? Who was it made from? one of the researchers asked. An experiment was conducted. The problem was solved by the New York police laboratory, specializing in the reconstruction of faces from the skulls, and a group of psychics who "connected" to the skull in a trance state. The opinions of both groups agreed - the skull of a young girl. Even the portraits painted on both sides were similar.

However, the Mitchell Hedges skull did not rest on its laurels for long. He is not alone, and there are not even two of them. And they are scattered all over the world: museums and private collections.

For example, found in the late 80s of the last century in Mexico by one of the soldiers of Emperor Maximilian. Currently, the "Mexican" crystal skull is on display in the British Museum. The “duplicate” is significantly different from the Lubaatun “original” - despite the similarity in size, it is less transparent, less detailed, and the lower jaw is fused with it. Another rough "copy" of the crystal skull is in the Museum of Man in Paris. In the winter of 1994, a rancher near Creston (USA, Colorado), while riding a horse around her property, found a sparkling shard in the ground, either made of glass or crystal. But what happened to him ?! There was a feeling that once the skull was soft and plastic, like plasticine, then it was pretty crumpled, twisted and left to freeze for the amusement of future generations.

There is a legend in ancient Indian legends that there are thirteen skulls of the "Goddess of Death" in total. They were kept far from each other under the watchful eye of the priests and special guards. Now it is difficult to say how they scattered around the world, but there is another ancient belief: every ancient crystal skull is looking for a master. That is why this little thing can disappear without a trace in one, and after years appear in another part of the globe - it looks closely, travels, searches …

It is believed that if you manage to find all thirteen ancient skulls and spread them in a circle, one of them will be the main one and will “collect” knowledge from all the others. In the meantime, the skulls were kept in storerooms of museums and private individuals in Mexico, Brazil, USA, France, Mongolia, Tibet … More and more legends and rituals associated with them emerged. For example, from a crystal skull, if you knew the instructions for handling it, you could find out not only the past, present, but also the future, right up to the end of the world. Or it is believed that it was possible to unravel any secrets if thirteen clergy, located in different places, began to simultaneously peer into "their" skull.

A certain Jose Indiquez, a very rich and personable gentleman, said that he became so thanks to a shard. In my youth, in the ruins of the ancient Mayan city, I stumbled upon an interesting piece of jewelry (I would have thought that if I saw a crystal skull). He kept it for a long time as a talisman, until he accidentally discovered that if you squeeze the skull tightly in your hands and make a wish, it will certainly come true. Indikes got everything he wanted out of life.

Rumor has it that "communicating" with a crystal skull, initiates can see the day of the return of the gods, including Kukulkan himself - the main Mayan god, who "in times of complete darkness" descended from heaven to earth and gave the Indians knowledge: writing, mathematics, astronomy, taught me how to build cities, grow rich harvests, use the calendar …

Recently, the hypothesis has been increasingly expressed that crystal skulls are a kind of transceiver that establishes communication between initiates. Moreover, for them there are no territorial boundaries or temporary ones. Rumor has it that with the help of such a skull it was possible to communicate, not only being apart from each other at different ends of the continent, but even on different planets. The shard could establish diplomatic relations with the inhabitants of other worlds.

Why "could" ?! Scientists suggest that the skull remains in working order to this day. The famous psychic Star Johnson said that with the help of the crystal skull "Max" he communicated with an extraterrestrial civilization. And this skull, moreover, it is not clear how it causes the phenomenon of xenoglossia - speaking in unfamiliar languages. There are witnesses and tape recordings that Johnson actually uttered some strange, untranslatable words during the "space communication" sessions. Subsequently, he argued that the ancient Atlanteans communicated with extraterrestrial civilizations in this language.

In crystal turtles they saw "mysterious images of people (past or future?..), mountains, hills, temples and … darkness", "other skulls, bony fingers." Art critic Frank Dordland (the first to study the skull of Mitchell Hedges) said that one night he and his wife woke up from the strange growling and screaming of jaguars - sacred Mayan animals. It was the crystal that Dordland took home that evening.

“Deserts became seas, mountains sank into water, masses of earth folded and sank (isn't this news from legendary Atlantis?) The most amazing sight was the inhabitants of this planet. The shapes of their bodies were constantly changing, and the sounds with which they spoke to each other were similar to the voices of whales and dolphins. Each time the ocean retreated, the creatures settled on the ground. Their bodies took on more and more human form. True, some remained in the water, looking like fabulous mermaids …”- wrote Nick Nocerdino in his report on his 33-hour meditation with a crystal skull.

What is it? An invention of a sick imagination, an attempt to become famous or a story about a painful one? If you study the properties of crystals, including crystal, you can even believe it. Crystals, due to their rigid structure, have their own memory. Each mineral has its own individual spatial grid; its particles can be displaced from time to time and the lattice gradually takes on a unique shape. In fact, she keeps a record of the "seen" events and can tell about-about-a lot. Some “find common ground” with the ancient crystal chroniclers. It is no coincidence that a crystal, well-polished ball or a small crystal skull was an indispensable attribute of any magical action …

The making of crystal skulls or balls has been widespread since ancient times in many countries of Asia and Europe. The size of the ball did not play a special role, but still "the bigger the better." Crystal skulls were also made in different sizes, up to the smallest talismans that could be easily hung on a string around the neck.

Such magic tricks were especially popular in the 15th - 16th centuries in Italy, France and other European states among fortune tellers, fortune tellers, fairground magicians and similar personalities. Even some aristocrats kept such "decorations" at home. For beauty or in case you want to know your destiny.

At the beginning of the last century, the skulls were sold at auctions. The demand of collectors for strange objects of unknown civilization grew by leaps and bounds. The scammers did not sleep either. Soon “pirated” copies began to appear and “multiply”. A modern crystal skull costs from 10 to 50 thousand dollars.

Skulls were found and found, collected and collected all over the globe. There were far more than thirteen of them. Indeed, only 49 were recognized as ancients. The rest looked more rude and uncouth - inept (and sometimes skillful) attempts to create their ideal skull. But it is unlikely that such an object would have any magical effect, in contrast to the true "gift of the gods." Two genuine skulls - "Max" and "Sha-Na-Ra" - are on display in US museums. In the largest collection of rare skulls, there are eight.

And in 1945, the International Society of Crystal Skulls was created in New York. Founder Nick Noserino. The main task of the society is to study and thoroughly investigate all the found skulls, moreover, to "check for antiquity."

All skulls are described and registered, but the information is kept under strict secrecy.

The unusual exhibit has been examined by 40 specialists for several months, subjecting it to X-rays, ECG, observation under a microscope. Psychics retire with the skull, following the instructions of one of the Indian shamans.

A real ancient skull must react in a special way to light and sound. For example, when the skull was irradiated through different light filters, he "himself" began to prompt the sequence of colors. And the Maya responded to the music of the Indians with a powerful release of energy.

By the way, not only historians and research scientists “hunt” for skulls … In 1943, agents of the German society “Ahnenerbe” were detained in Brazil during an attempt to rob a local museum. Their goal was to "remove" the crystal skulls of the "Goddess of Death". Not for nothing. It turned out that the representatives of the Third Reich wanted to seize power not only over the entire material world, the planet Earth, but also over the invisible, metaphysical world.

“Ahnenerbe” means “ancestral heritage”. At the behest of the SS Gruppen Führer Karl Maria Welligute, the "secret cardinal" of this magical order, the bearer of the "knowledge of the devil," Ahnenerbe agents around the world were looking for ancient magical archives and props, especially the priests of Atlantis. The Nazis hoped to use the knowledge of the "progenitor of the Aryan race" to create "supermen" and subjugate the rest, "subhumans".

But it is quite possible that not all the skulls have been found yet? How many of them are hidden in the depths of ancient cities? How many more people will be made happy or unhappy by an unexpected find?
