Azov archaeologists made an unusual find. They analyzed the finds of the summer period and found a mold for casting a pendant with an unusual ornament.
The find belongs to the Middle Ages. In the center of the pendant there is a square with mysterious symbols, and along the outline it is decorated with vignettes. Scientists examined the inscription in the center of the square and noticed that there are only three or four variants of the icons. It remains a mystery to them what this ornament means.
- We have never found such pendants. Maybe the master made some kind of imitation of the inscription, but for what it is still not clear, - said the head of the department of archeology of the Azov Museum-Reserve Andrey Maslovsky.
It is noteworthy that this mold was reworked for casting the suspension. The master cut off part of its wall and made holes on the back for making other rounded objects. For researchers, it remains a mystery what these objects were, because until now they have not found any of them.
