Scientists have failed to establish the source of the sound

The first Chinese cosmonaut, Yang Liwei, told TV reporters about a strange incident that happened to him during his space flight in 2003.

During his interview, shown on the Chinese Central Television (CCTV), the astronaut talked about the unusual sound that Yang Liwei heard while in orbit, writes Zhongguo Ribao.

“At some point I heard a sharp knock, which appeared suddenly and just as suddenly disappeared. Soon the knock was repeated, I began to listen, as a result of which I was able to establish that the sound did not come from the spacecraft. I then got a little scared, reported this to Earth. We did not manage to notice anything unusual in the window,”said Yang Liwei.

After conducting several dozen checks, the technicians told the astronaut that the uncharacteristic sound would not affect the flight. After returning to Earth, the specialists examined the spacecraft, however, it was not possible to establish the source of the sound.

Technicians tried to recreate a similar knock, but the astronaut never heard what he heard in orbit.

“Before the launches of the manned spacecraft Shenzhou-6 and Shenzhou-7, I talked to the crews and warned them about the possible appearance of an unusual knock. However, the other cosmonauts never heard anything,”added the first Chinese cosmonaut.
