On the official video channel "UFODOS" on Youtube in December 2009, a short and rather poor quality video was posted, which allegedly captured ball lightning, filmed in the Odessa port in July of the same year. To date, the video has received over a million views and hundreds of comments. Why such an interest in fireballs, we ask the editor of the Internet publication Ukraine Anomalnaya Yaroslav Sochka.

- Today everyone has a video camera in their pocket, but the video of ball lightning can be counted on the fingers. And that is not always clear: ball lightning in the frame or some other natural phenomenon. Hence the natural interest in ball lightning.
- Who is the author of the video and why is it, as by the law of the genre, of poor quality?
- Igor Velichko took off this ball lightning on July 23, 2009, guarding on duty in the Odessa port. We received the video from him in the form of a compiled program, so in order to convert it into a regular video format, we had to literally re-capture it from the screen (video capture). In addition, this is an ordinary CCTV camera, they do not shine with high resolution, besides, they were filmed at night, there is no color, sound, etc. Actually, that's why we have poor video quality.
- The opinions of the commentators were divided into two camps: some believed the headline that it was ball lightning, the second believed that it was an ordinary “Chinese flashlight”. A few third parties even claim that you joked and drew it in a video editor …
- We are not inclined to jokes, but the nature of the video is really intriguing. To begin with, the author of the video himself did not fully understand what it was. It looks like banal "Chinese lanterns" only externally, but if you look closely at the brightness of the object and the size (and this is a large light spot on the water surface), then the "Chinese lantern" does not have such energy. And they move with the wind. Our object, making oscillatory movements, descended from somewhere above to the water, as if studying it, and slowly rises up until it disappears in the distance. All this happened in just 2-3 minutes. However, to assert with 100% certainty that it was a real ball lightning would also be incorrect: the video is of rather poor quality, there is no other eyewitness testimony, etc.
