This rather well-known story, like most of the Yakut "horror stories", is associated with spirits - though not evil, but benevolent spirits of nature, which are rarely shown to people. Under certain conditions, they can still be seen, and an unprepared person such a meeting can be very scary.
The main heroine of our story will be a young girl from the city who came to the Yakut village for the summer. With the onset of June, white nights begin in central Yakutia, and it is sometimes difficult for visitors to fall asleep, especially in stuffy weather. This happened once with a city visitor. At first she read a book, then drank milk and honey - hoping to fall asleep soon, but sleep never came to her. When the girl got tired of tossing and turning in bed, she decided to go outside and get some fresh air.
The house of her relatives stood on the very edge of the village. There was a field nearby, behind it a forest began. Standing on the porch and thinking about her own, the girl suddenly heard strange sounds from the side of the field, as if a large crowd were singing in chorus there. Interested, the girl looked out the gate and really saw in the distance a lot of people dancing osuokhai - the national circular dance of the Yakuts, accompanied by chants. Those gathered were very smartly dressed, as if they were celebrating a great holiday.
Despite the fact that the melody was perfectly audible, the girl could not make out a word, no matter how she strained her ear. Without thinking twice, she left the yard and went into the field. It seemed that there was nothing to be afraid of: it was light around, as in daylight, and ahead there were a lot of joyful people.
Having overcome a third of the field, our heroine noticed something strange. When she stood at the gate, she clearly saw people dancing in the center of the cornfield. However, the girl did not manage to get close to them. The dancers clearly managed to move further, to the edge of the forest. For some reason, the singing now sounded louder. And although the words were still incomprehensible, it became audible that the choir is breaking up into separate voices and each singing is bringing out his own motive, ignoring the rest. The girl, however, did not attach much importance to this and continued to stride purposefully towards the people.
Surprisingly, as she advanced, the osuokhai did not get closer, and when she reached the middle of the field, the dancers were already in the forest. Their faces were still indistinguishable, with only bright traditional outfits flashing through the trees at the edge.
At some point, the girl suddenly noticed that the dancers were gone - either they went deep into the forest and fell silent, or there was no drying up at all and she dreamed it all. Realizing that she was standing alone at night in the middle of the field, the girl was seriously scared and rushed headlong home.

In the morning, when she told her family about her adventure, they were very surprised and explained that the girl had a chance to see the dancing spirits of nature, and this is a very good sign that promises good luck and happiness.
