Dmitry Rogozin argues that social networks are used as one of the elements of cyber war - with their help foreign states influence public opinion of citizens.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin considers social networks to be one of the elements of cyber war, including against Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

“Through them there is a powerful manipulation of public opinion, because all sorts of 'likes' and other buttons that you press there instantly introduce you to certain groups, which are then analyzed and systematized,” Rogozin said, speaking within the framework of the Civil University project in Moscow.

According to him, social networks provide an opportunity to manipulate people who, for example, hold opposition views, luring them into special groups.

“This increases the number of those people who begin to receive special content information that undermines the authority of the government and the values of the state. We know that this is being actively used,”the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia stressed.

Rogozin said that in the United States there is even a special department that deals with this kind of things, and that he met with the head of this department. According to Rogozin, the task of this department is "the use of social networks to achieve the US military goals not by military means."

Dmitry Rogozin: social networks are one of the elements of cyber war In April 2013, at a meeting of the council at the military-industrial commission, Rogozin spoke about the importance of ensuring the state with cyber security, saying that "cyber warfare is coming to the fore."
