During the Great Patriotic War, Soviet pilots Major Boris Surikov and Major Gleb Bazhenov, while carrying out the bombing order in the area of Romanian oil refineries, encountered an unidentified flying object in 1944.
During the bombing of the factories used by the Nazis, both pilots noticed a strange and unusual object flying towards them and appearing out of nowhere. Both pilots mistook the UFO for a new type of German weapon, which at that time was much talked about in the troops and even written in the press. Later Surikov said:
Later, in the post-war years, Surikov, recalling the incident, compared the UFOs with the space shuttles of the United States of America. Surikov said:
Bazhenov, gave the command to drop the ammunition, but the accuracy of the bombing in the conditions of unstable operation of the on-board instruments was not great.
Upon returning to the airfield, the pilots reported the incident in the sky to the command, but they did not attach importance to their words. In general, the bombing was carried out, no malfunctions in the operation of the bomber when returning to the airfield were identified.
