This conclusion was made after a thorough analysis of the life of mammals. The researchers noticed that the increase in temperature throughout the history of the Earth affected the size of mammals, they decreased in half.
Scientists note that this decline began 55 million years ago, during the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum. It was then that the air temperature began to increase, many mammals decreased in size, and many became extinct.
The increased air temperature affects all living organisms. As for a person, due to heat, the body receives less moisture, and because of this, the structure of the body changes.
One of the authors of the study, Abigail Caroll, noted that the concentration of active dioxide in the atmosphere is now normal, but the situation should change in the next century. The researchers also noted that now the level of atmospheric warming is ten times higher than it was during the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum.
The findings of scientific experts are published in the journal Science Advances.
