Archaeologists have discovered a medieval burial in the historical center of Pskov, the first information about which dates back to the end of the XIV century. Marina Kulakova, director of the archaeological center of the Pskov region, told reporters at a press conference.

“During excavations at the intersection of Sverdlov and Spegalsky streets in the historical center of Pskov, a section of a medieval cemetery was discovered near the Mikhail Monastery in Pole, the first information about it dates back to the end of the 14th century. 120 burials have been studied, anthropologists will work with them. The remains of the monastery buildings were destroyed in the 1960s during the laying of utilities, and burials were found directly under the asphalt layer of the 1960s,”said Kulakova.

According to her, at the burial site, archaeologists also found a bracelet and a glass bead dating back to the 12th century. “These findings give us reason to believe that the necropolis was located on the site of an older one, dating back to the XI-XII centuries,” said Kulakova.

She also added that this year archaeological research in Pskov was carried out at several sites with a total area of three thousand square meters. m.
