In Altai, at the place where the borders of four countries at once: Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, there is a beautiful and unique Ukok plateau. Several ancient burial mounds are located on this plateau. On one of these mounds in 1993, the mummy of a young girl was found. She was christened Princess of Altai. But immediately after the discovery of the ancient find, unpleasant phenomena began to occur here. Local residents believe that scientists disturbed the force that guarded Altai, and thereby caused the anger of the Altai Princess.

Now everyone can get to the Ukok plateau by arriving on their own - on a rented SUV or as part of an excursion group. Here you can find only border guards, poachers, rafters on one of the turbulent local rivers and geologists who continue to explore the ancient plateau. However, even before 2006, a ban was imposed on any excavation of the Ukok mounds.

And the local authorities banned excavations after archaeologists found the burial of a girl in one of the local burial mounds. Her approximate age at the time of her death was set at 25. And the body lay for about 25 centuries. Because of what the Altai Princess died (as she was called later) is not exactly established. It is known that she was from a wealthy family, although she was not really a princess.

Interestingly, there were tattoos on her arms - an image of a griffin. This symbol, most likely, was not a simple decoration of the body, but symbolized something specific. After all, Herodotus called the inhabitants of Altai "vultures guarding gold." And even now there is a legend among the locals that their descendants are people who knew how to turn into vultures.

Due to the fact that the girl's grave was under a layer of ice for many centuries, her body is quite well preserved. Scientists were even able to restore the appearance of the Altai Princess from separate fragments. But not everyone was happy about such an ancient, important and well-preserved find. Local residents, for example, later said that they knew well about the burial. But even in their thoughts they did not admit the possibility of finding, getting and studying the mummy. And they also believe that the Princess was the patroness of these places.

As evidence that the ancient spirit was unpleasantly disturbed, people talk about a strong earthquake that occurred in the same 1993. After some time, another trouble happened here - a massive death of livestock. And in general, everything bad that happened on these lands later was explained by the anger of the Altai Princess.

But all these conversations were not limited to gossip of local residents - it came down to proceedings at the state level. The princess was returned back to her native land - to Ukok. Moreover, an extension was built for it, where special climatic conditions suitable for better preservation of the mummy were organized.

However, local shamans were unhappy with this decision. They demand that the Princess be returned to the mound where she was found. Some claim to hear her voice. According to them, the Princess says that she is a living, but sleeping girl. And that in case she wakes up, dire consequences await people. But scientists, of course, do not agree to such a step - in this case, there is nothing to hope for the safety of the mummy.
