In the late evening of January 26, for a few seconds, residents of Arkhangelsk observed a bright blue flash that suddenly appeared in the dark sky.
According to eyewitnesses, a strange glow was seen in the Okruzhnoye Highway area near Arkhangelsk. Experts from the Cosmopoisk Research Association note that the unusual blue light in the night sky could be of both heavenly and terrestrial (technogenic) origin.
- Since we do not yet have high-quality observations, only one video recording and stories of several eyewitnesses, we cannot say that this could be. However, we have several versions explaining the origin of the outbreak. Theoretically, it could be a meteorite or space debris fall, UFO impact, as well as any previously unexplored effects in the atmosphere, - said Vadim Chernobrov, head of the Cosmopoisk ONIO.
It is known that there are many high voltage power lines in the area, and it is assumed that the light source is associated with a short circuit in the power grid. Local residents claim that at this time there was a power failure in the apartments, the lights were flashing. However, according to scientists, OJSC "Arkhangelsk Electric Networks" assured that major accidents were not registered in the Okruzhnaya area at that time.
- We saw such a glow in Arkhangelsk for the first time. Although in 2012 eyewitnesses saw flashes of white and green colors in the sky of our city, these lights were much smaller than this glow. The origin of the outbreaks is still unknown, - Alexander Ugryumov, head of Arkhangelsk-Kosmopoisk.
- So far, having one video recording, it is not clear where the light source was, on the ground or behind the clouds, - according to the Arkhangelsk-Cosmopoisk group, - Thanks to eyewitness reports, it was possible to calculate the approximate place of the outbreak - Okruzhnoe Highway 17, 19. The presence of many high-voltage power lines in this area suggests that the light source was near the surface of the earth and associated with a short circuit in the power grids. There were several reports in "Zhest" that lights were flashing in the apartments. However, OJSC "Arkhangelsk Electric Networks" assured that there were no major accidents on January 26 in the Okruzhnaya area.
By the way, this is not the first such phenomenon in the last month. A similar blue flash in the sky was observed a week ago over Perm, and in early January, a bright flash of unknown origin lit up the sky over Romania.
