10 days before his death, John F. Kennedy asked the CIA to provide him with all secret documents that relate to the detection of unidentified flying objects in the United States.
On the same day, he turned to NASA with a proposal to hold closed negotiations with the Soviet Union, at which he planned to discuss the activities of countries in space. John F. Kennedy's letters were published by the FBI. They both date from November 12, 1963.
However, they would have been lost in a heap of other reports and documents, if not for the researcher William Lesten, who understood the declassified papers when he wrote his book about the assassinated American president.
According to the text of the request, Kennedy was greatly worried that UFOs were seen quite often over the territory of the USSR. He feared that the Soviet leaders might mistake them for new American technologies, which would provoke serious aggression in the already tense relations between the two countries.
He also asked the CIA to hand over all the documentation on the unidentified objects to NASA to help them in their work, since they, in the president's opinion, understand this better. At the request of the President, all documentation and comments on it were to be ready no later than February 1, 1964.
However, the 35th president was not destined to wait for the start of a large-scale study. On November 22, 10 days after the two orders were sent, Kennedy was killed by a sniper during a visit to Dallas. The killer of one of the most beloved American presidents has not yet been found.
