The powerful radio telescope RT-70, located in Evpatoria, sent 500 digital photographs, drawings and text messages into outer space. The "package" is sent to the planet Gliese 581C, located 20 light-years from Earth in the constellation Libra, according to the BBC

Astronomers expect the message to hit its target in early 2029. Although this planet is very different from Earth - its orbital radius is much smaller than that of Mercury, and its mass is five times that of Earth - it is believed to have liquid water. Gliese 581C, discovered by the South European Observatory in April 2007, is most likely surrounded by the atmosphere, although its composition cannot yet be determined. Purely theoretically, living organisms can exist on the planet.

In the hope of finding fellow creatures in mind, the organizers of the social network Bebo invited 12 million of its users to take part in the "Message from Earth" competition. Suggested topics for the message ranged from nature and politics to family life and the first kiss. According to Seth Shostak, lead astronomer at the Institute for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence in California, "if the aliens receive our message, they will at least realize that we are advanced enough to build a radio transmitter."
