Since childhood, a 26-year-old resident of the American city of Portland, Cole Cohen, had very serious problems with mathematics, orientation in space and other things that were commonplace for her peers. It turned out that in the girl's brain there is a hole the size of a lemon, according to the NY Post.

Although Cole had excellent grades in English and literature, doctors diagnosed her as learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

There were serious reasons for this: the girl could not determine at what distance this or that object was from her, she did not know how to use a watch, and the numbers, according to her, were for her "a set of meaningless squiggles."

This continued until one of the doctors advised her to undergo an MRI. Imagine the surprise of the American woman when a specialist, having studied her pictures, said that there was a hole in Cole's brain the size of "a lemon or the fist of a 10-year-old child."

The hole of unknown origin was filled with cerebral and cerebrospinal fluid. This was the reason for the problems with orientation in space and with touch, which the girl experienced throughout her life.

Doctors said that this is an extremely rare disease, which is unknown how to treat. Since then, Cole Cohen has taken even more medication than before, but she has written a book about what it is like to live with a hole in your head. The work of the American woman is called Head Case: My Brain and Other Wonders.

“For a long time I could not understand how long one should hug this or that person, but I always preferred to do it as long as possible. Some were shocked. With the help of friends, I tried to remember how to get home in different ways. It was extremely difficult,”writes Cole Cohen.
