Therefore, scientists go indirectly, and remember the similarity of his face with Khefren. Since Khefren lived about 4500-4600 years ago, it means that the Sphinx appeared at this time.
But, since this version has too many flaws and is not finally accepted, the true age of the sphinx also remains unknown.
It is worth mentioning here the traces of erosion found on the base of the sphinx. Hydrologists say this erosion could not have been caused by normal rainfall or the flooding of the Nile. For its appearance, a powerful stream of water was needed, directed from the north. The flow had to be not only powerful, but also persist for a long time.
These traces of erosion could have appeared as a result of a global flood or heavy rains that spilled over the territory of Egypt about 7-12 thousand years ago. I really want to note that the conclusions of the hydrologists did not convince anyone, and the traces of erosion were attributed to the quality of limestone and natural processes.

3. Purpose of the Egyptian Sphinx
The explanation of its purpose can be approached from two sides. If it turns out to be the creation of an ancient civilization unknown to us, then we can guess for a long time, so we will consider the official versions.
The sphinx's gaze is directed to the east, from where the sun rises, which could somehow symbolize the divine principle. In many Eastern civilizations, the lion was symbolized with the sun, and the pharaohs were often depicted as lions defeating enemies.
Thus, the sphinx can serve as a sculpture deifying a certain pharaoh. There is another interesting version.
The Sphinx depicts some kind of demigod or guardian guarding the tombs and rest of the great pharaohs.
