The town of Bennington in Vermont (USA) has only about 15 thousand people, but it is fraught with many mysteries that no one has yet solved.

The most unusual of these cases is undoubtedly the disappearance of James Edward Tadforth. This man was born in 1884 in the town of Fletcher in the same state of Vermont. By 1940, he lived in Fletcher with his young wife Pearl (Tedfort was 56 and she was only 28).

When World War II began, Tadforth, despite his age, went into the army and was taken, and when the war ended, he returned to Fletcher and found that his wife had disappeared to nowhere. The house they rented before he left was abandoned, and none of the neighbors knew or said anything about Pearl.

In principle, due to the large difference in years, it would not be surprising if Tadforth's wife left for another while he was playing the hero, but his wife's disappearance turned out to be more mysterious.

After asking the locals, Tedforth found out that everyone saw Pearl going to the Amoco grocery store and walking there with a bag, and no one saw her returning home from there.

Finding himself without a wife and without a home, Tedforth, after a long search, eventually decided to go to a veteran's shelter in the city of Bennington. He moved there in 1947. In November 1949, Tedford visited his family and then drove back to the orphanage. But when a few days later on December 1, relatives called the shelter, it turned out that Tedforth had never returned.

When the investigation began, it was discovered that Tedforth took a bus to Bennington to be at the veterans' shelter in 8 hours, but that day there was a snowstorm, all roads were covered with snow and the bus barely drove down the highway. By the way, the route passed by the Green Mountain National Forest, which itself is reputed to be a strange place where people disappear.

Together with Tadforth, there were 14 more passengers on that bus, and they all remembered him perfectly. Tadforth had a remarkable appearance due to his lush beard and the same lush mustache. According to them, the man slept all the way in his chair. When the bus arrived at Bennington, all the passengers got off, except for the old man, and when the driver checked the cabin, he found no one in it.

Passengers who got off at the bus stop also confirmed that the old man did not get off the bus. At the same time, many remembered that at the previous stop he was still on the bus and slept peacefully. So he disappeared from the bus somewhere between the penultimate stop and Bennington. At the same time, the bus did not make unexpected stops during this interval.

And all of Tedforth's belongings remained on his chair, including the bus schedule brochure. James Edward Tadforth was eventually never found dead or alive.

In addition to the disappearance of Tadforth, Bennington is famous for his personalized "Triangle", which is located in the same forest. From 1920 to 1950, about 40 people disappeared here. Due to the fact that the most famous cases of loss were the disappearance of women and the body of one of them was found, it is unofficially believed that a brutal serial killer was operating here.
