Researchers from three American universities have proven that the ancient Mayan manuscript is authentic and was created in the 13th century, which means that it is the oldest written message in North America.
The authenticity of the Grolier Code, as the manuscript is called, has been in doubt since its first display to the general public in 1971. The fact is that it was discovered by grave robbers back in 1960 and there were suspicions that it was just a fake and all the inscriptions were made in the same 1960, and not in the XIII century by the Mayan Indians.
But the carbon analysis of the paper itself and the chemical composition of the ink showed that this is the original, in addition, this code contains extremely accurate astronomical and calendar knowledge that the robbers simply could not possess. Also, the paint itself, with which the inscriptions were made, could not be produced in the 1960s. But the most important thing is that these ancient records speak of deities that no one knew about in the middle of the twentieth century.
However, all these discoveries practically did not affect the opinion of skeptics, who still consider the Grolier code to be a fake.
