For an Indian, a turban is not just a traditional piece of clothing, but an object of worship. A real Sikh, in addition to Dasaar (as the turban is called in the Punjab state, where Sikhism is widespread), is also distinguished by hair and beard, which were never touched by scissors. The hair of the Sikhs is hidden inside the turban.
And earlier there were kept gold with jewelry, and documents, and seals, and most importantly, the turban protected the owner's third eye from the thoughts of the enemy. So, if now the length of the fabric for the turban is 5-7 m, then before it was several tens of meters, and the entire headdress of the sage weighed 20-30 kg.
The white turban is its owner in mourning (unless it belongs to the namdhari caste).
