An unusual archaeological find was made by Chinese scientists who studied sandstone located in Inner Mongolia, in the north of the PRC. A rock drawing with the image of a human face, made about seven thousand years ago, was discovered here.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the size of the image is fifty-seven by sixty-five centimeters. The figure shows a face with rather large eyes, an elliptical mouth, and teeth, indicated by four vertical lines in the mouth.

“If we compare this drawing with other similar ones found in this area earlier, it can be noted that it is made much more accurately - the ancient artist used smoother lines and, on the whole, did his best. Plus, this drawing is significantly larger than the others,”says Wu Jiacai, a rock art researcher at Inner Mongolia Pedagogical University.

According to the scientist, the drawing found in Inner Mongolia will help in studies in which experts study the migration of ancient Chinese people. Rock painting, especially this ancient one, is a rather important component of such research.
