Near the small island of Ovk, which is located off the coast of France, photographer Georg Robertson captured an amazing phenomenon - clear squares on the water. And he himself is at this time in a light boat - a small kayak.
The author of these images, which appeared on the Internet, explained that he was filming ordinary waves, when suddenly the sea began to transform, or rather, its waves were transformed, turning into these fantastic squares that literally amazed him. He had no idea that this marine phenomenon was not only interesting, but also terribly dangerous for swimmers and light boats.
According to scientists, square waves are formed due to the collision of warm and cold currents. It is at this junction that it is most dangerous to be, since square waves pull in everything on the surface, and much faster and more mercilessly than funnels. Moreover, if the funnel, having noticed in advance, can be bypassed, then it is simply unthinkable to break out of these terrible square waves, if a person finds himself in them.
Most tourists who visit this "paradise sea corner" are aware of this danger, and therefore try to listen to the advice of local residents who warn about it in advance. Georg Robertson managed to avoid certain death only due to the fact that there is a rescue helicopter on the island. However, he arrived in time at the very last moment. By the way, independent researchers do not agree with the conclusions of scientists that square waves are formed at the junction of warm and cold currents.
