Before starting the story, it is worthwhile to devote a few words to the personality of our hero - Khorezmshah Jelal-ad-Din Menguberti, the last ruler of a nonexistent state, the son of a man who had everything and died with nothing, the enemy of the Mongols number 1, the prince who created from the ashes army, and later from the void state. In short, an interesting character. And he did not suffer from weakness, he did not suffer so much that the Horde sometimes wondered if he was crazy for an hour. Jelal ad-Din showed himself to be an excellent strategist, confident and ruthless for enemies, friends and even for his own children and wives.
When Khorezm fell under the leadership of his father, he managed to collect … 300 horsemen. With these figures, the daring prince challenged Genghis Khan, politely but persistently recommending that he leave for his steppe, away from Khorezm. Over time, the number of Khorezmshah's comrades-in-arms rose to 70 thousand (perhaps an artistic exaggeration, like the half-million army of Batu). With these forces, he utterly exterminated a large detachment of Mongols (about 30 thousand) at Parvan. The impudent Shah was the first to inflict a similar defeat on the Mongol army, and Genghis Khan himself appreciated his action.
Jelal gets away from the Mongols, even running away he instilled respect for himself.
… and followed. Here, the young shah began to have problems, as it turned out, there were still enough Mongols in Asia, and the great khan himself was determined to decisively end the misunderstanding under Paravan. Jelal ad-Din launched a guerrilla war, avoiding battle, until he was pushed by the great khan to the Indus River, where (little spoiler) he suffered a crushing defeat, leaving his homeland forever.
Above you can see the miniature. The Shah on horseback rushed off the cliff into the river, making his way under a hail of Mongol arrows. Nobody dared to follow him (from the Mongols). Before jumping into the water, he ordered - to drown his wives, concubines and children in Indus. Apparently, there was no time to save them, but to kill them. The Mongols took their homeland, family, throne, destiny from Jelal ad-Din, and the Shah decided that they would not take the latter away. It did not work out, the first wife with her newborn son survived, however, in order to die immediately - the Mongols overtook and killed her along with the child. What happened next? Jelal ad-Din fought in India, conquered the Caucasus and died at the hands of an unknown assassin.
