An unusual spot of light appeared last night in the sky over the capital of the Amur Region. The optical phenomenon was observed by thousands of Blagoveshchensk residents. Many have posted photos on social networks and put forward different versions: from the arrival of a UFO to testing a new "weather" weapon. AP sent photos to meteorologists and scientists.
- All night glows in the sky are, as a rule, of a technical nature. The cloudiness was strong yesterday, the ground lights of Blagoveshchensk were reflected in low clouds, - Vladimir Yurkov, associate professor of the Department of General Physics of the BSPU, announced the scientific version. - The spot of light in low clouds is oval, as in the photo. So there is nothing unusual in this phenomenon. Comet Tuttle is now passing relatively close to the Earth, but it cannot be seen with the naked eye, and even more so it could not cause such a glow.
I agree with the astronomer and the Amur meteorologist Svetlana Kazachinskaya. “The phenomenon, of course, is interesting and beautiful, but there is nothing unusual about it,” noted Svetlana Anatolyevna. "Low clouds can have a similar optical effect."
The official meteorological service said that no unusual or anomalous phenomena were observed over Blagoveshchensk on Wednesday evening.
