In the American city of Springfield (Kentucky), between Valley Hill Road and an unnamed stream, an unusual tree grows, which the locals call the Donkey. Like most urban legends, the story of the Donkey Tree varies somewhat depending on the personality of the narrator. The reason for the appearance of an unusual plant here and its mysterious properties are described in different ways, however, having listened to the townspeople, one can compose an average version of an amazing story.
So Springfield people believe there was a man living here in the middle of the 19th century who had a donkey. The owner mercilessly beat the animal and one day beat him to death. Note that in those days the moral compass of people was somewhat different, and even senseless killing of cattle was considered a disgusting act deserving punishment. Perhaps that is why the myth of the supernatural tree that punished the cruel farmer was born then.
It is believed that a tree began to grow rapidly in the place where the American threw the animal's carcass. Over time, one of its trunks bent and acquired a hollow, beginning to suspiciously resemble the head of a donkey with an open mouth. Years passed, and the farmer began to drink too much, although he had not abused alcohol before. Once he confessed to his drinking companions that the "donkey's head" on the tree at night has glowing eyes, and blood drips from its "mouth". The man's friends, naturally, only laughed at his words, considering the farmer's visions the result of delirium tremens.
The American tried to cut down the tree, however, being completely drunk at that moment, only he himself was injured with an ax. He wanted to sell his land, but did not find buyers who would pay a decent sum for it. In the end, the farmer drank himself completely, his lifeless body was found lying under the bed with a gun in his hand. The windows in the room, overlooking a grove with a mysterious plant, were tightly boarded up, as if a drunkard was expecting a visit from his mystical donkey. Maybe he waited for it. The donkey tree still amazes with its mystical properties.
The donkey tree stands in Springfield to this day, and frightening rumors about it only multiply over the years. The plant is considered cursed: they say, if you touch it, you can lose luck, get sick, even go crazy or even go to the forefathers. A thick red liquid, suspiciously similar to blood, was repeatedly noticed in the "mouth of a donkey". Some eyewitnesses claim that they saw in the dark how the eyes glowed with red fire on a tree.
On the other hand, they say that a mysterious tree can not only take good luck, but also bring it. To do this, you need to place an apple in a hollow, which really looks like an animal's mouth. If you return here later, even after a few minutes, the apple will certainly disappear. This is a very interesting anomaly, and its existence has been repeatedly confirmed experimentally. However, many believe that some animal simply lives in the hollow, which is not averse to feasting on such offerings from time to time.
In October 2014, the Abnormal Kentucky supernatural research team spent a whole night here, pitching two tents near Donkey Tree. Between midnight and three o'clock in the morning, specialists repeatedly heard from the darkness of children's laughter and crying. Alas, these mystical sounds were never recorded on audio.
