Lake Ertso is a 940 meter long reservoir in the Dzau region of the republic, often called the "Ghost Lake". The beauty of the flora and fauna of these places is extraordinary, but this lake is famous not for its picturesque landscapes, but for its unique anomalous feature.
All water disappears from the lake every 5-6 years. Experts explain this phenomenon by the presence of karst caves under the bottom of the reservoir, where the water goes for some unknown reason. Some ufologists believe that the strange draining of the lake with a certain frequency does not happen by chance. And no matter how fantastic it may sound, but in the bowels of the earth a real alien base can be located.
If the purpose of the aliens were to study microorganisms and living things that live in Ertso, then this could be done in an imperceptible mode, maintaining a certain level of water in the lake. Perhaps such a huge amount of water, which is later returned back, is required for global cooling of any device or mechanism.
There is also a related hypothesis: under the lake there may be a secret laboratory or a secret military base of South Ossetia with the latest equipment and the need for periodic cooling, which for some unknown reason goes beyond the known methods of lowering the temperature.
Sounds absurd. For such an important object, it would be much more practical to use liquid nitrogen than to pump out an entire lake and thereby attract tourists and researchers here. This undoubtedly reduces the plausibility of this hypothesis towards other intelligent creatures that are unable to use more modern cooling methods in the bowels of the earth's crust.
According to an old legend, on the shore of the lake there was a house of an evil and greedy rich man, who robbed local peasants, sparing no one, for which he was subsequently drowned in the lake by them. The body of the tyrant was not found and, according to the legend, it is his insatiable spirit that drinks all the water when it wakes up, and then plunges back into sleep.

Since this legend is more than three centuries old, we can draw the appropriate conclusions: the anomaly has existed for a very long time, which finally excludes the possibility of finding objects created by man under the lake.
Despite the fact that scientists continue to research the mysterious lake, we are unlikely to find out the whole truth. Information related to the active activities of extraterrestrial civilizations is always kept under the status of a state secret.
