There is a question that supporters of the official version of history ask their opponents whenever they run out of arguments and explanations for the contradictions of canonical history - "why would someone need to falsify the history of nations?"
If this happened, then it was a titanic work, an extremely costly undertaking, which in addition had to be coordinated from one center (due to the duration and global coverage). I will try to answer this question, taking into account the (not sufficient) information that I have at the moment.
Fundamental information
To understand why we are being deprived of our historical memory and hiding the true history, it is necessary to make three important distractions from the question.
1) Scientists in the 20th century have irrefutably proved: we are our brain and nothing else! The human brain controls 100% human behavior and decisions made by him (the book by A. V. Kurpatov "Red pill"). Neural connections are formed in the human brain in the first years of life, studying the rules in which it is placed. In other words, we (our brain) are what we were taught, what rules, morals and prohibitions surrounded us in childhood. Socio-cultural model of the clan, region, nationality, nation, country. This determines our thoughts and actions.
Thus: change the information loaded into the child's brain and he will consider it as TRUE, moreover, instill in him the wildness and absurdity of something and he will laugh at it (with a high degree of probability) all his life, without even suspecting that he is making fun over the TRUTH.
Not without reason after the collapse of the USSR, the "winners" first of all rushed to rewrite history, publish (with their own money) new textbooks. They defamed the old ideology, lifestyle and values, and offered new ones instead - fashionable, Western ones. Young people began to be surrounded by the Western model of civilization, they began to think as they had taught and what they saw in childhood - Western stereotypes. Everything Soviet was declared mossy, shameful and rotten. And on the contrary, everything western is advanced, interesting, the best. And they did a lot. The most striking example: rewriting the history of the Second World War and the contribution of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition to the Victory.

2) All this we (and the whole world) have already passed. Mass rewriting of history took place in the 16-17 centuries. The old (not convenient) story was replaced by a new one - the "correct" one. The originals of the manuscripts to which the chroniclers of the 16-17th centuries refer were burnt, lost, gone. But, by a strange coincidence, there were copies made by the very same chroniclers. ALL world history is written on the basis of copies of ancient manuscripts made in the 16-17 centuries (article Comrade, believe: the history of the past is the door to the future!).
The history for the majority of states of the world was written by hired specialists, often not historians, but always foreigners (so that they would not be clever and not kick up). In Russia, this process began with the accession of the Romanov dynasty to the throne of Muscovy and acquired its final form already in the 18th century, through the efforts of the Germans in the newly formed Academy of Sciences (articles: How the true history of Russia was destroyed … (part 1) and How the true history of Russia was destroyed … (part.2)).
3) The population of the Russian Federation and Eastern Europe are mostly representatives of the Slavic (N1, I2, R1a) clans (article "Homeland of mankind and who are the Aryans?"). Western Europe is mainly inhabited by another haplogroup (R1b). The border between them is quite tangible and coincides with the former borders of the Warsaw Pact countries and NATO countries.

The entire history of our world convincingly shows us how the representatives of the peoples of the haplogroup R1b (today, for simplicity, called the Anglo-Saxons), related to other nations. British, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, German colonies in different parts of the world were drenched in the blood of the local population (article How the Anglo-Saxons brought democracy to the Indians.). A completely different attitude towards the conquered, absorbed territories was demonstrated by the Slavs (Russians), preferring to negotiate, peacefully coexist and develop the annexed territories.
These are different ideologies, worldviews, attitudes, character, goals - absolute antagonists.
The junction of civilizations
Our ancestors have always known that a person is formed in the surrounding socio-cultural, clan environment. That is why in the territory now called Russia, there was a cult of the family. Basic values and worldview have been passed down from generation to generation.
In Western civilization, the family did not play a big role before, and does not play it now. Instead of generic education - the Law. One for all, no matter what. Grown-up children leave the family forever and parents make sure that this process does not drag out. In fact - every man for himself and nothing is a pity.
Many thousands of years ago, people with haplogroup R1b, as a result of a long migration from Altai, came to Europe from North Africa. But the place was already taken by the descendants of people with haplogroup R1a, who came to Europe a little earlier and lived there next to the ancient European ethnic groups. It is not known for certain how events developed further, but we can reconstruct them according to the known relationships of the R1b descendants with the natives of America, Africa, Australia, and so on. Most likely they were accepted, allocated territory, fraternized, got married. And after they got used to it, dealt with the internal rivalry among the locals and gained strength - an active and bloody genocide began (video "Unknown genocide of the Slavs" by A. A. Klesov):
As a result, the most ancient population of Europe was completely destroyed and today scientists have a rather vague idea about it. Tribal alliances with the haplogroup R1a retreated to the places most developed and populated by relatives and allies - this is how the current "border" was formed. The military forces were balanced and this "standing" continued for quite a long time, until religion came into play.
For them, there is no morality, conscience and barriers.
Catholicism as a weapon
Of the many Christian denominations, Catholicism has become the most militant denomination. Maybe because it was spread mainly (initially) among the descendants of haplogroup R1b? One way or another, but precisely under the pretext of planting the Faith, the crusades took place against the South Baltic Slavs, Poles, Danube Slavs and Russia.
The planting of faith with the help of fire and sword, gave its result: the South Baltic and Danube Slavs were partially exterminated, partially driven out to the east, and the rest were assimilated by the Germanic tribes. Lyakhi, Slovenes, Czechs, Carpathian Ruthenians and some other Slavic families adopted Catholicism, submitting (adopting their ideology) to their western neighbors. But the matter did not go further, the most ancient territory of polyethnic associations (Scythia, Tartaria, Russian Empire, USSR, Russia) fiercely and successfully resisted expansion.
Most likely, he did not come up with it himself - this is a common Western concept.
And then the cunning Catholic priests, with the hands of numerous monastic orders, began a new stage of subjugation of the eastern territories - they began to write (their own, distorted as they needed) history of the world …
