Scientists still cannot determine why all the trees near Griffino, Poland are distorted in a specific and similar way.
The forest, which was planted around 1930, is made up of numerous pine trees that have been distorted in close proximity to the ground and form strange, curved trunks.
The secret of this phenomenon ends successfully with the fact that the neighboring village of Griffino, which was home to those who ever knew what happened to the trees, was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. The dead people took the secret with them to the grave.
Although today no one knows for sure what is the cause of the trees' curvature, the prevailing theory is that they were once specially cultivated by the locals. But not everyone is convinced that this is the real story of a crooked forest.
