“Everyone felt a terrible blow. When the eyes got used to the gloom, against the background of the smooth surface of the water, the movement of the body of some animal was clearly noticeable. The feeling of wild fear did not leave the people in the boat. The creature was huge and did not stop pursuing. The head rose above the water and the monster's eyes were visible on both sides of the boat. Before them, without a doubt, was the Labynkyr devil."

The mysterious and picturesque Labynkyr Lake is known for stories about an aggressive and dangerous animal living in this lake. Labynkyr is located in Yakutia, in wild and rugged places.

Labynkyr devil

Legends say about a huge predator that lives in the lake, swallows animals and people. The death toll numbers more than a dozen people, not including cattle and domestic animals. There is a terrible belief among the people that the monster in the lake is a real devil that takes the form of a water animal and eats not only the bodies of its victims but also their souls. Not every fisherman will go out to the lake alone, and even at night. In addition, the locals are confident that the devil can go ashore, which makes it even more scary and dangerous. Strange footprints on the shore left by a large body, as if crawling on a huge belly, repeatedly frightened the natives, once again reminding them of the owner of the dark and cold waters of the lake.

For the first time, the world learned about the Labynkyr line 50 years ago thanks to the research of the scientist, geologist Tverdokhlebov. The scientist's sensational notes sparked a surge of interest, the scientist's diaries were published in the Around the World Journal and the general public learned about the Labynkyr Lake existence.

The surroundings of the lake are very picturesque, the water in the lake is clean and transparent. Its beauty is very different from the nearby water bodies. Black rocky cliffs crashing into the heavenly surface of the lake emphasize the crystal clear waters. As the sun sets, twilight shadows thicken, the last bird voices fall silent, picturesque landscapes change their appearance to a more gloomy and frightening one. In the silence of the coming night, there is an unexpected frightening splash and the sounds of a large and heavy body floating on the water.

So who lives in the lake - a giant pike or a relict reptile? The absence of the harmful influence of civilization leaves a huge chance for survival for poorly studied animal species, thereby giving the possibility of the existence of the Labynkyr devil and similar "monsters". From a geological point of view, the lake is also of great interest to scientists. There are many fish in the lake, which makes it very attractive for fishing enthusiasts. But inveterate fishermen have chosen less fishy places and not a foot to the lake. The skeletons of huge pikes with skulls racked by a powerful jaw were found by local residents on the shore of the lake.

In addition to fishermen, the reservoir was visited by repeated expeditions and recorded completely mysterious and incomprehensible phenomena. Anomalous signals from a large body eight to ten meters long were recorded by an echo sounder at different depths and in different parts of the reservoir. In addition, with the help of an echo sounder, the bottom of the lake was studied, which turned out to be completely rocky and having tunnels more like burrows.

It is possible that there are underwater tunnels between the neighboring lakes and the monster runs freely along the nearby reservoirs, which is confirmed by the testimony of local residents who saw the monster in the Gateway lake next to Labynkyr. Hiding in underwater caves, a monster is more likely to remain undetected.

In addition, the lake itself is fraught with many mysteries about its origin. At very low temperatures, when the neighboring lakes freeze completely, Labynkyr and Vorota do not completely freeze. Huge openings in the middle of the lakes make it possible for a large creature to breathe air. The temperature does not drop below two degrees Celsius, which in itself suggests the existence of thermal springs in the depths of the reservoir. To date, there is no exact data that could protest or confirm the existence of the "devil".

Numerous legends of local old-timers, entries from the diary of the scientist Tverdokhlebov and the terrible stories of fishermen who dared to disturb the peace of the animal leave hope to make a discovery and prove the existence of a relict animal.
