On August 6 and 9, 1945, two tragedies occurred that became the last chord of the madness of the Second World War - the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. About 78,150 Hiroshima residents died, 51,408 were injured or missing. These casualties exclude members of the armed forces, who suffered relatively minor casualties. Of the 76,327 buildings in the city, about 48,000 were completely destroyed, and 22,178 were partially destroyed. 176 987 people lost their homes”. In Nagasaki on August 9, more than 40 thousand people died, that is, every fifth inhabitant.
Why is the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki not perceived as an act of a heinous crime by the American military against civilians? Why has the United States not yet publicly apologized for these atrocities to the people of Japan? Why is the bombing still not recognized as an act of genocide, since the absolute majority of the victims are civilians? These crimes have no statute of limitations!
The saddest thing is that the Japanese are gradually forgetting what happened 71 years ago in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. According to a poll by one of the radio stations, 70 percent of the Japanese do not know the date of the bombings, and the most dull-witted citizens sincerely believe that Russia dropped the bombs on them. No wonder, because Japan has not yet signed a peace treaty with the Russian Federation and is trying to argue with her over the South Kuriles. This means, some Japanese believe, because of this, Japan and Russia once fought. Such a perverted understanding of history is characteristic of many countries, but a whole generation that grew up on this understanding can commit many erroneous actions on a national scale and even more. That is why it is so important to remember the lessons of history, that is why Hiroshima should become an example not only of the horror and chaos of the world war, but also of geopolitical ambitions, for the sake of which those in power are able to commit mass murders, genocide of an entire people.
