Connoisseurs and lovers of strong Mexican "moonshine" hardly suspect that they get this drink exclusively thanks to the inhabitants of the Mexican city of Tequila, who for several centuries have been planting agave bushes, cultivating them, caring for them, and then producing a popular drink.
Where did this tradition come from? Even the Mexican women themselves do not know, saying that it has always been this way.
However, locals sometimes recall an old legend, according to which, in the distant 16th century, men who had plantations, when they left for a little rest, allowed their wives to take care of young shoots of blue agave bushes.
It was not too hard, "not for men" work, and women did it quite well.
However, then no one even thought about a drink from agave: coarse ropes and fabric were woven from the bushes, then they were made into rugs.
But one day, one of the women somehow got "juice" from the agave and treated her husband. He did not drink it right away, but left it, and when he tried it, the juice had already fermented.
The resulting drink and its "consequences" pleased the man, who decided to treat the local ruler - King Montezuma - with a "novelty".
After tasting the august special drink, it received the green light and went to the people.

As a result, the women were entrusted with the further cultivation of both the shrubs themselves and the drink obtained from it, with which they have been successfully coping for a long time.
Now Mexican tequila continues to be at the peak of the popularity of the alcoholic products market.
Mexico has literally been breaking records for almost a decade, supplying the world with quality drink in huge quantities.
A year ago, tequila producers managed to supply more than 220 million liters of this drink to the international market, which is higher than the supply of the same period in 2017.
Tequila is exported to 120 countries of the world, but its main consumers are the countries of the European Union and America.
