In 2013, several new books were published, devoted to the problems of the study of anomalous phenomena in Russia.

Interestingly, the authors draw attention to one aspect of the anomalous zones that previously remained on the margins of publications (although it was mentioned), namely, the strange glow of soil and vegetation. What is this phenomenon, is it unique and is there an acceptable explanation for it? Let's try to figure it out.

S. E. Ermakov in “Another book about“anomalous zones”(Moscow, 2013) describes his encounter with a luminous meadow in this way. It was September 1987, when the author, with a company of curious people, was combing a similar strange area at night. The full moon was shining, the night was starry, as befits the clear nights of late summer and autumn, when even our night star is not able to fill with its radiance all this magnificent scattering of lights. Further, the author writes: “after walking along a field road among almost harvested corn, we climbed a hillock, rounded the woods and moved on in a straight line. The extravaganza of the fog illuminated by the Moon made all around glowing balls. They really glow - blue-white and as if with their own light. If it is reflected - for example, the reflected light of the Moon, then why only individual points shine.

Approaching them, of course, is creepy. You don't seem to feel a threat, but the natural reaction is to be protected, to move away, and if you observe, then only from afar. But you cannot afford to do this, you will not forgive yourself later, tomorrow, if you do not consider them as closely as possible. And you go up to them, even stretch out your hand - of course, refraining from touching. Carefully pull so, mentally whispering something like "I just look, I do not want anything bad …". Cold comes from the balls - not deadening, but the kind that could come from the cold river water. They just shine, just lie on the field, almost all over the field, even get lost in the fog. And - they shine."

During the same sortie, its participants also observed glowing fog domes, in the intricacies of which they walked. The only negative impression that the author described when entering such a dome is weak pressure on the head.

G. M. Silanov described his long-term studies of the Novokhopersk anomalous zone in the book "A Touch of Extraterrestrial Intelligence" (Voronezh, 2013). He writes: "… The hands of the clock approached eleven in the morning. Taking a radio station and a flashlight, he asked Vyacheslav Martynov to be constantly in radio communication, and he went to the zone. I quickly reached the first decay with a familiar path and informed the base that I had everything The powerful beam of the flashlight illuminated a narrow path in the dense forest darkness, surrounded on all sides by a floodplain forest. It was no more than two hundred meters to the clearing to which I was heading, when the flashlight suddenly went out and I found myself in pitch darkness. ended in vain, but, getting used to the darkness, I soon began to distinguish the outlines of the trees. So, almost by touch, I approached the anomalous zone.

But what is it? Through the thinned forest I saw a glow shimmering with moonlight. The glade that we call "anomalous" was glowing! There was something mysterious, inexplicable in all this. I turned on the radio station and got in touch with the base, told about the observed phenomenon, asked to record my messages.

The whole glade was glowing. It seemed to be illuminated from within by some powerful light source. Suddenly, one part of the glade lost its brightness, as if someone had "turned off" its illumination, but the other continued to glow. I went to the center of the clearing, where the light terminator passed, in order to get a better look at this unusually interesting and beautiful phenomenon.

After a few minutes, the glow disappeared almost completely, leaving only a narrow, path-like strip of light. The "path" crossed the clearing approximately along the meridian and stood out clearly against the general background, which had faded enough by that time. Then the glow moved to the other side, forming a wide light strip. Unusual sensations took possession of me. There was no fear. There was a feeling of delight and joyful peace. It seemed to me that everything around me is a huge living organism, living according to its own laws unknown to us. Looking at my feet, I noticed that several of my shadows had formed around me. I searched for the reason for their appearance for a long time, but I did not find anything.

After midnight, the moon appeared. It interfered with my observations, but at the same time highlighted the shadows around me with more contrast. One of them was undoubtedly caused by the Moon, but the others? […] And the glade's glow did not stop. It suddenly appeared in the form of huge blurred spots on the surface of the earth and moved, as it seemed to me, in a huge arc."

Among the reasons that can cause luminescence in anomalous zones are many likely factors, for example, St. Elmo's lights, the glow of ionized air, and even local clusters of fireflies. G. M. Silanov suggested that fires can be formed under the influence of electric fields and with the release of one of the gases contained in the soil, helium, to the surface.

In the practice of geological exploration, there is a method for mapping tectonic zones according to the increased content of helium in water or atmospheric air. This gas, which has a high penetrating power, is associated with deep-seated processes occurring in the interior of the planet.

Migrating along microcracks in the earth's crust and reaching the surface of the day, it "draws" a general picture of a geological fault. GM Silanov tried to establish the presence of helium in the near-surface layer of air using a gas analyzer. To do this, the researchers took five air samples in the anomalous zone from specially drilled shallow wells, pumping them into children's balloons. As the author writes, “obviously, its concentration in the samples was below the sensitivity threshold of our device, or the rubber balls were simply letting in gas,” but the analysis did not reveal any signs of the second element of the periodic table of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev.

One of the phenomena noted by researchers - mysterious glow in anomalous zones - can have a different nature in all cases, but it can also be a kind of universal indicator of geoactivity. Similar descriptions that are found by various authors and occurred in geographically remote areas indicate the prevalence of this phenomenon.

It is possible that we have before us one of the already well-studied processes, akin to bioluminescence or ionization under the influence of a coronary or point discharge. If we are dealing with glow caused by atmospheric electricity, then for its formation a significant increase in the electric field is required, which is usually observed before a thunderstorm. But if it does not smell like a thunderstorm, and the luminescence process is recorded, then this may indicate some deep processes that form excess free ions.

Having systematized the facts of the luminescence and having found an acceptable explanation for them, we will slightly open one more page of the weighty tome of the mysteries of sonneristics. And the "luminous glades" seen in the forest, from these positions will no longer be a refuge for a mystic or treasure hunter, but will become a place for complex scientific expeditions.
