During the existence of human civilization, many monumental and majestic structures have been created that can claim the title of a wonder of the world. One of these architectural monuments is the Chand Baori well, which is located in India. Every year this place attracts a large number of tourists, scientists and pilgrims, as it is one of the mystical and most beautiful structures in the world.

What is Chand Baori Well

This structure, according to scientists, is a well that was built to supply nearby places with clean water. This miracle of architecture is located in the Indian state of Rajasthan, in the city of Abhaneri. This territory is characterized by a very arid climate, in addition, there is a constant shortage of drinking water. The well is a man-made structure resembling an inverted stepped pyramid. It is designed in such a way that when it rains, water accumulates at the bottom and remains for a long time. You can get down by the steps that go down to the water itself, moving from level to level. In total, this inverted pyramid has 13 levels leading down, each of which consists of 7 steps. Moreover, the total number of steps exceeds 3 thousand, and the entire depth of the well exceeds 3 tens of meters,of which about 10 is water.

If you approach the cyclopean structure from the side, it will not seem so monumental - you can see only the walls and buildings surrounding it, which are not of particular interest. But, if you get inside, then a stunning view opens up.

The structure was erected specifically to supply residents of nearby areas with drinking water throughout the year. The well played an important role in the life of people, since this area is distinguished by a very arid climate and uneven precipitation; it rains only 2-3 months a year.

It should be noted that the building also played a sacred role - on one of its walls there is a spacious temple, while the other 3 are tiers with steps. You can enter there only after bathing in the water of the well. It is the fact that a large number of pilgrims bathed in it for a long time that caused the pollution of the water. Therefore, for a long time it has not been used for drinking, as it can lead to infection with parasites, or an infectious disease.

The mystery of the appearance of the well

The time of construction of the Chand Baori well has not yet been precisely determined. Some researchers believe that it was built before our era, while others are inclined to believe that the structure appeared already in the 9-10th century AD.

The architecture of this well deserves special attention. It is still unknown how the structure was designed with such precision and taking into account a large number of technical parameters. The accuracy and symmetry of all lines can amaze the imagination of any person who comes to this place. Unknown architects were able to make it so that the water accumulated in the well during the entire rainy period, replenishing also with groundwater. And when dry weather set in, the water remained below until the next precipitation period and was usable. To achieve such an effect, when designing a structure, it was necessary to take into account a lot of parameters, so the construction of Chand Baori was an extremely difficult matter, requiring a huge amount of engineering calculations and material resources.

When looking at the well, you can see how carefully it was processed and lined - all the rows of steps are arranged in strict geometric symmetry with respect to each other and the floors. Therefore, the general picture of the well is really capable of capturing the imagination.

The appearance of this building is also covered with secrets. According to legend, the well was created in just one night by a king called Chand, who belonged to the race of demons and ruled the surrounding lands. It was in honor of him that the structure got its name, since the second word "baori" means a well.

One way or another, the exact date of the appearance of the monumental structure, as well as how the construction was carried out, is still not known for certain. Some researchers of anomalous phenomena believe that this well was erected with the help of some technologies that are now inaccessible to mankind by a highly developed ancient civilization. This can also explain the fact that such a complex from an engineering point of view, an object was built in ancient times.

The reason for the creation of this object is also not fully understood, since for a simple storage of fresh water, Chand Baori looks too large-scale. Currently, the well is visited daily by many tourists and local residents who come to worship at the temple. But it is worth remembering that the steps of the structure are fraught with considerable danger - during the existence of Chand Baori, many people fell down and died.
