About a hundred years ago, archivists discovered ancient maps, from which it followed that they knew about Antarctica long before its discovery by Russian sailors.

The map of Antarctica, compiled in 1513 by the Turkish admiral Piri Reis, was shown to the public in 1929. Others surfaced: the French geographer Orontius Phineus from 1532, Philippe Bouache, dated 1737. All very accurately depict the outlines of Antarctica, but without the ice cover. The Buache map clearly shows the strait dividing the continent into two parts. And its presence under the ice has been established by the latest methods only in our time.

International expeditions that checked the Piri Reis map found out that it is more accurate than those compiled at the beginning of the 20th century. Seismic reconnaissance confirmed what no one had guessed: some mountains of Queen Maud Land, which were still considered part of a single massif, turned out to be in fact islands, as on an old map. So most likely there is no talk of falsification. But where did such information come from people who lived several centuries before the discovery of Antarctica? Both Reis and Buache claimed that they used ancient Greek originals when compiling the maps.

A variety of hypotheses have been put forward about their origin. Most boil down to the fact that the original maps were drawn by a high civilization that existed at a time when the shores of Antarctica were not yet covered with ice, that is, before the global cataclysm. It has been argued that Antarctica is the former Atlantis. Isn't this what prompted the theorists of Hitler's racial theory to start searching for secret esoteric knowledge in the sixth part of the world?

This, in particular, was the responsibility of the Society for the Study of Ancient German History, Ideology and Legacy of German Ancestors, founded in 1933. Later it received a simpler name: "Ahnenerbe", that is, "The heritage of the ancestors." It included dozens of research institutes working under the auspices of the SS. They expanded the range of research from Tibet to Antarctica. In 1935, it was "Ahnenerbe" that was tasked with confirming the provisions of the racial doctrine of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) and proving the superiority of the Nordic, that is, the German race. Later, the society was headed by SS Reichsfuehrer Heinrich Himmler.

Expeditions to Antarctica were organized on the initiative of Ahnenerbe in 1938-1939. Particular attention was paid to that part of the mainland, which was called the Land of Queen Maud. Here the Germans discovered several so-called oases - places with a warmer climate, where rocks protrude from under the ice. A huge system of interconnected caves filled with warm air was discovered. According to the theory of "hollow earth" inside our planet there is a space favorable for full-fledged organic life - with its own luminary, underground rivers and plants.

Esotericists of the post-war and modern times show unremitting interest in the continent-mystery. In particular, the Chilean Miguel Serrano (Miguel Serrano, 1917-2009), a writer and diplomat who took part in the American military expedition to Antarctica in 1947-1948, believed that the "hollow earth" is the abode of the coming race, which is the most pure "Underground Aryans". It is unreasonable to sweep aside these judgments. Serrano was closely acquainted with such outstanding scientists, thinkers and politicians as Gustav Jung, Nicholas Roerich, Indira Gandhi, the Dalai Lama. They all took the Chilean's judgments very seriously, including Antarctica.

It is known that the planes of the Third Reich first photographed in detail the previously unexplored land, and then dropped several thousand metal pennants with a swastika there. The area was called New Swabia and was considered part of the Reich. The map of Antarctica was replenished with German names of mountain plateaus, lakes, ridges.

There is a lot of information about the stay of the Nazis in Antarctica, but we are talking about popular literature. And the facts must be confirmed by archival or other written documents. They are just not there. Russian explorer, member of three expeditions to Antarctica, master of sports of international class Yuri Baikovsky told the Military-Industrial Courier: “In 2003, our group made five first ascents to unnamed mountains in the area of the Voltat massif. It was the Nazis who marked it as their own land, giving it a name when flying over Antarctica. Having previously studied the materials available to us "Ahnenerbe" and other sources, we were actively looking for signs that would confirm numerous myths. But not a single pennant was found."
