Scientists for the first time were able to simulate the expansion of the Universe, taking into account the change in space-time (the Lense-Thirring effect) and calculate the amplitude of gravitational waves.

The discovery is reported in an article published in the journal Nature Physics.

Previously, researchers used algorithms based on numerical modeling of Newtonian gravity. With this approach, only time changes, and space is a static variable. This approach is good when matter in the Universe moves no faster than 300 kilometers per second.

The new numerical simulation method allows accurate calculations, even when particles are moving at high speeds. In addition, the new model describes fluctuations in dark energy, which is responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe.

To confirm the performance of the model, scientists took a cubic part of space, which included 60 billion areas, each of which contained a fragment of the galaxy. The researchers monitored how each of the fragments moved relative to the adjacent area. The calculations were carried out using two supercomputers.

The method proposed by scientists is called gevolution and will soon be available to researchers around the world.
