A group of scientists from Greenpeace decided to explore the most mysterious place on our planet. They spent several weeks in the South Atlantic exploring the Vema Seamount. It is located at a distance of a thousand kilometers from Cape Town, rising above the ocean abyss for about 4,600 meters. This is the most unusual and almost unexplored place on the planet.
Its conical summit has been washed away by water for millennia, eventually becoming a plain, and its height today is only 26 meters above sea level. The research vessel "Arctic Sunrise" has all the necessary equipment and equipment for deep diving.
Its use allowed divers to explore Vema almost around the clock. The seamount is called the oasis of the ocean. It is constantly flooded with sunlight, and this favorable climate promotes the growth of rare plants and the reproduction of unique microorganisms.
The seamount got this name thanks to the ship "Vema", in 1950 it was nearby and members of its crew accidentally discovered a strange peninsula, as reported to scientists.
In 2007, the UN recognized the Vema Seamount as a unique natural monument. Today Greenpeace continues to study this object, paying attention to how human activities affect the underwater world of the oceans, what changes occur in water resources due to climate change.
