The sun is the only star in the solar system, its largest object. It makes up 99% of the total mass of the planets, their satellites and asteroids in the solar system. The Sun appears to be standing still, but in reality it rotates on its axis at a rate of approximately one revolution every 31.5 days. It rotates around the center of the galaxy at a rate of one revolution every 200 million years. The sun has been around for 4.5 billion years. Scientists expect it to die in about 6.4 billion years. Can the Sun go out suddenly? It may very well be …

When the Sun went out …

On February 16, 2018, the American SOHO device recorded an unusual phenomenon. The sun disappeared for a moment. At the same time, the rest of the stars were in place, which excludes the breakdown of the device. A moment later, the star reappeared. On Earth, no one noticed this, and could not notice, because the sunlight goes to the Earth for about eight minutes. Interestingly, just before disappearing near the Sun, the same apparatus recorded a strange object nearby.

On July 20, 2018, the Verkhoyansk region of Yakutia plunged into darkness. There was no sun for two and a half hours, from 11:30 to 14:00. When the luminary returned, people all over the area noticed that some kind of dust lay in a thick layer on the ground and water. Many birds died, their carcasses were found throughout the area. The authorities admitted that the Sun had disappeared, but did not confirm the presence of strange dust. On August 8, 2019, the Sun in this area disappeared again. Everything happened exactly the same as a year ago.

This is not the first anomaly

The disappearances of the Sun in 2018-2019 are not the only anomaly. In 2017, residents of several cities in the Canadian province of Alberta saw the sun take on a teardrop shape.

In October 2017, in Pskov, people saw another solar anomaly. The luminary was bright red, and its edges were "torn". At the same time, a few kilometers from the city, the Sun was not visible behind a dense cloud cover.

An astronomical conference was held in 2017. On it, the famous scientist Paul Cox said that a second Sun appeared in the solar system. It was first noticed when Mercury began to approach the Sun. Then his words were taken as a joke. But a year later, he once again declared that the second sun exists. NASA knows about it, but has not yet released this information. By the way, some engravings of the Middle Ages depict two suns at once.

Not only does the Sun disappear

In 2009, the star N6946-BH1 disappeared. Scientists watched her, hoping to study her death. But instead of a bright flash, it disappeared. At first it could be seen in the middle range, but soon it disappeared completely. Astronomers speculate that it has turned into a black hole, and it is simply not visible.

Astronomers have compared the lists of famous stars of the 20th century with modern ones. It turned out that about a hundred stars, marked on maps and recorded in catalogs, disappeared without a trace. Astronomers try to explain this by the transformation into less noticeable objects, but still the mystery of the disappeared stars has not yet been solved.
