Why are beautiful people more likely to have daughters than sons? Because beauty is more important to women than to men, says evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanatsawa of the London School of Economics, author of Ten Politically Incorrect Truths about Human Nature.

The scientist admits that some of his ideas seem immoral, but he assures that they are supported by scientific evidence.

1) The Trivers-Williard Hypothesis states that if parents can pass on traits to children that are more favorable for individuals of a particular sex, more children of that sex will be born. Kanatsawa suggested that beautiful people have more daughters, since from the point of view of evolution, the main advantage of a woman over her rivals is beauty, and found statistics that confirm this.

2) Liberals are smarter than conservatives. Kanatsawa found data that the average IQ of young people who called themselves “extremely liberal” was 106 points, and those who called themselves “extremely conservative” - 95. “Evolution encourages people to be conservative, to ensure that they care mainly about their family and friends. Liberalism and caring for an indefinite multitude of strangers who are not genetically related to you is something innovative from an evolutionary point of view. Therefore, smart children often become liberals when they grow up,”the author explains Kanatsawa's conclusions.

3) Suicide attacks are not always dictated by religious motives. But as long as religion appears in this situation, it is always Islam, says Kanatsawa. According to the scientist, the explanation is that Islam permits polygamy and, therefore, not enough women for all men. "For many young Muslim suicide bombers, the driving force is the combination of polygamy with the promise of a big virgin harem in heaven," writes Kanatsawa.

Kanatsawa explains the love of men for blondes by the fact that blond hair is a sign of youth (it darkens with age). He considers polygamy to be an integral feature of human nature: "If the property gap is large, it is better for a woman to share a rich man with someone than to lead a monogamous lifestyle with a poor man." Spouses who have sons rather than daughters are less likely to get divorced, because sons need a father more: he guarantees that the offspring will inherit wealth and social status, Kanatsawa believes. Kanatsawa explains the "midlife crisis" in men not by the aging of men, but by the fact that their wives are getting out of reproductive age. The scientist considers sexual affairs of male politicians to be the norm: men strive for political power in order to attract more women. Sexual harassment of women at work is not discrimination against women, but only a private manifestation of the behavior of men with potential competitors, Kanatsava believes.
