The biggest mystery of the Chelyabinsk meteorite is the explosion of a cosmic body. This was told by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Presidium of the Russian Federation Council for Science and Education, General Director of the All-Russian Institute of Aviation Materials / VIAM / Evgeny Kablov.
According to him, the uniqueness of the phenomenon lies in the fact that such a powerful explosion took place and precisely at this height.
"It is hard to explain. Until now, as far as I know, celestial bodies of this composition have not exploded so much, - the scientist noted. - For science, this is an extremely important event, and samples of meteorite remnants would be of interest to us in terms of studying materials uncharacteristic for our planet, which consisted of an object moving at such a colossal speed. And, most importantly, how this knowledge can work for our aerospace industry."
Kablov lamented that the institute does not take any part in this matter, does not investigate any pieces, although the possibilities for this are enormous.
“VIAM developed about 96% of all materials used in aviation and space technology in the USSR, a little less now in Russia,” the academician explained. “I don’t think that the samples didn’t reach us because of someone's thoughtlessness.” According to him, a research program is being created and approved by the relevant authorities and science. "These samples would be extremely important for the development of the aerospace industry," he stressed.
