There is such a joke: Karelia, they say, is the land of unafraid UFOs. And this joke did not arise out of nowhere. Ufologists assure that flying saucers appear in Karelia much more often than in any other region of the world. Allegedly, there is a portal connecting our world with other worlds. And it is located just above Vedlozero.
Meeting with "Gollum"
I visited Vedlozero this summer. I was lured there by my Petrozavodsk friend Alexei Belugin, an inveterate fisherman and hunter. Moreover, he promised not only excellent fishing, but also some mysterious surprises.
We climbed a bit far, not into the wilderness, but still … From the capital of Karelia to the regional center, the village of Pryazha, about fifty kilometers, and from there to Vedlozero, the same amount. Fortunately, the road is good - there is P21, a federal highway. However, before reaching the village of Vedlozero, we turned into a country road in our SUV and soon reached the lake without incident, where we stopped at a picturesque cape.
The grandiose fishing that Alexey promised me did not work out. And we did not fish locally: not with nets, but with fishing rods. But nevertheless we trained roaches and perches on quite a decent ear. And under the ears is not a sin, and 100 grams from a flask. We sat by the fire until midnight, enjoying the freshness of the lake and forest silence. Then we decided to take a nap in the tent until the morning dawn, when the nibble is at its best.
At night, I woke up with the feeling that someone was watching me and even seemed to delve into my brain, trying to read my thoughts. A wave of horror rolled over, the body became viscous and disobedient. My heart was pounding and my forehead was covered with cold sweat. With difficulty I opened my eyelids - and in the darkness of the tent I saw two huge green glowing eyes staring at me.
Gradually (after all, there is no complete darkness on a white night) I made out the outlines of a figure at the entrance. The creature is small, less than a meter, but with a disproportionately large head. Very similar to Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I did not have time to see anything else - feeling that I was looking at him, the stranger silently disappeared, as if there was no one.

Recovering from the shock, he pushed Alexei away, snoring sweetly next to him. He listened to my confused story about the night guest at first with bewilderment, and then, realizing what was happening, laughed:
- It was Yegorka who came to us! Do not be afraid, he is harmless, he is afraid of people himself and does nothing wrong.
- What kind of Yegorka?
- Yes, either a goblin, or a water one. Locals often see him on the shore.
- But where did he come from?
- Oh, that's the whole story! - Alexey smiled mysteriously.
- So tell me! Still not going to sleep anymore.
- Okay, especially since it's too early to go fishing …
Cylinder in the lake
On the evening of November 15, 1928, the inhabitants of the village of Shchuknavolok, located near Vedlozero, saw in the sky a huge, ten meters long, cylindrical object. It slowly and silently floated across the sky towards the lake, and reddish flames and sparks erupted from the tail section. Having reached the lake, the cylinder collapsed down in front of the village, breaking through the ice.
The rising wave almost completely demolished the island, located just between the place where the object fell and the village (local residents believe that this island saved the village from the "tsunami"). The depth in this place is seven or eight meters, and the top of the aircraft almost protruded above the water.
Times were harsh, and the villagers immediately reported the incident to the right place. Immediately, the enkave-deshniks arrived in several trucks, cordoned off the area of the lake, and did not let any of the locals come close. We fussed for several days, investigated a strange object, suspecting that an enemy secret apparatus flew towards us.
They tried to get him out of the lake, but where there was no suitable equipment. Then, in the summer, the divers came - they also could not do anything and did not find the entrance to the inside of the cylinder. And then the authorities gave up on this matter.
The locals reacted to the new "neighbor" quite calmly. They even adapted to fish from this cylinder, to throw nets. Its top was about seventy centimeters from the surface. And the boys generally swam, frolicked around him without any fear.
Water
Only for some time now did the villagers begin to notice a strange creature on the shore. About a meter in height, with a large head, with slender limbs, and the arms are thin and long, below the knees, and the legs are short. The hands have four fingers. It was dressed in something resembling a tight-fitting jumpsuit. The unexpected guest usually sat quietly on the shore, not paying attention to anyone. And the peasants did not dare to approach him, cautiously avoiding him.
But then the boys grew so bold that they began to throw stones at the stranger. He did not like this, and since then, when people approached, he began to dive into the water and hide in the depths. For this reason, he received the nickname Vodyanoy from the local residents.
Most likely, this is a member of the crew of the crashed object. Or maybe there were several. However, why was it? The waterman on the banks of the Ved-loser is still being met. But he avoids direct contact with people.
Gelatinous rain and other wonders
Four and a half years after the fall of the cylinder, in the summer of 1933, a dense black cloud descended on Shchuknavolok, and a "gelatinous rain" poured out of it. The jelly-like substance covered the area of the village of about 50 square meters.
On the advice of the local healer Maria Lvovna Agarkova (she had a vision and a voice from above), local residents began to collect this jelly in bottles and use it as an external medicine.
They say that radiculitis, rheumatism, arthritis were very well cured in this way. And nothing to say about all sorts of scratches and cuts - healed instantly, like on a dog. They also said that even during the Great Patriotic War, this medicine helped to heal wounds.
Since about 1937, on the water of Vedlozero, next to the island behind which the object fell, from time to time, colorful luminous circles of ideal shape began to appear, with a radius of three to ten meters.
Sometimes these circles pulsed, sometimes circled around an invisible center. And in our time they are observed. Moreover, as soon as these circles appear, interference in the operation of televisions and other equipment begins in Shchuknavolok. And in the neighboring village, located five kilometers away, there are no such obstacles.
Fruitless attempts
Many years after the first unsuccessful attempt by the special forces in 1928, in the 1980s the military tried again to explore the Vedlozero area. A helicopter flew in with divers and soldiers on board. Several dives were carried out. Finding nothing, hastily curled up and flew away.
It is possible that the object has overgrown with algae over 50 years and entered deeper into the muddy bottom of the lake. It is possible that the aliens managed to somehow raise their ship (but in this case, the "Gollum" I met could no longer be a member of the crew of that very cylinder).
At the beginning of the first decade of the 21st century, enthusiastic scuba divers repeatedly surveyed the lake. But the search was hampered by the too muddy bottom and the complete lack of landmarks, because the island of Chiyraako itself, near which the UFO fell, had almost collapsed by this time.
In addition, when diving to a depth of 7-8 meters, an unreasonable horror rolls over the swimmer, it is almost impossible to overcome this psychological state. However, the search was not entirely unsuccessful - at the bottom they found a mysterious formation that looked like lava. Where this lava could have come from is not clear - there are no prerequisites for such formations in Karelia.
UFO invasion
Apparently, in the Vedlozero area there is a kind of "cosmodrome" - locals often observe UFOs of various shapes, amazing atmospheric phenomena and strange creatures walking around the area. This, to put it mildly, worries and frightens them. They even had to turn to the Karelian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a demand to understand the situation and give an answer, what, in the end, is happening in their native places and how you can get rid of all this nightmare.
For example, one of the residents casually told the researchers how in April 2008 another phenomenon of a “strange heavenly guest” occurred: a large luminous ball moved across the sky, leaving a winding white trail behind it. And what was it - who knows …
Another villager told how the inhabitants of several villages located around Vedlozero, observed a certain celestial body, which was much larger and brighter than ordinary "shooting stars". During the flight of this "ball" the windows were shaking in the houses. People were so scared that they reported the strange object to the local rescue service.
Sometimes, rapidly rotating multi-colored circles appear in the sky, similar to those observed on the surface of the lake, sometimes glowing stairs descend from heaven to earth. Other anomalous optical phenomena are also observed. Science cannot yet give a clear explanation of all these riddles. It is noticed that Vedlozero has negative energy. It is possible that there is a portal to other worlds here.
