One of the parts of the epic about the adventures of Indiana Jones "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" colorfully shows a mysterious artifact of antiquity - a crystal skull, also called "the skull of fate." The film, perhaps in a somewhat fantastic form, reflects those incredible properties of the "skull", which, according to ancient legends, he possessed. At this time, many different versions have been expressed regarding this amazing product: from the most skeptical, implying that it is an ordinary work of art, to mystical, connecting the crystal skull with the secrets of Atlantis and endowing it with supernatural properties. It is very difficult to fully argue for this or that version, but one thing is clear - the ancient technologies that were used to make it were many times superior to modern ones.

According to the most common historical version, the crystal skull was found in 1927 by the English scientist Frederick A. Mitchell-Hedges in the ruins of a Mayan temple in Lubaantun. This story is confirmed by a number of facts. However, there is another version, claiming that the researcher bought this product at Sotheby's in London in 1943. However, this is not so important - it is important that the skull from a single piece of rock crystal (crystals of this size are rare in themselves) is made so perfectly that it cannot find any “natural” explanation. Although a crystal skull was found in the ruins of a Mayan temple, the latter could hardly have done anything like that. Of all the civilizations known to modern historical science, none of them had the ability to create such a product. According to scientists, a crystal skull, found by Mitchell-Hedges is technically impossible in terms of modern technology. This circumstance gave the authors of the "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" to put forward an assumption about the unearthly origin of the artifacts. The fact is that none of the known modern technologies is capable of creating such a copy of a human skull from a single piece of quartz. To test this claim, a competition was announced: anyone who can reproduce a crystal human skull in this way was promised a reward of $ 500,000. However, alas, the award remained unclaimed.that none of the known modern technologies is capable of creating such a copy of a human skull from a single piece of quartz. Let us dwell briefly on the features of this product. The “skull of fate” in question is a replica of a female skull with an extremely high degree of accuracy, it is perfectly polished, and its weight reaches 5 kg. The skull is made of a solid piece of quartz and has a hardness index of 7 on the Mohs scale (the maximum value for this scale is 10). Thus, tools of a very hard material were required to process this mineral. However, the crystal skull is polished in such a way as if cutting tools were not used at all (no traditional traces of abrasives are observed at all). A study of the skull, which was carried out by Hewlett-Packard in the 1970s, revealed a circumstance that confused scientists even more: in order to achieve such perfection, it had to be sanded with sand for 300 years …

The design feature is the articulated connection of the lower jaw with the rest of the structure, which gives the product even more grace. In addition, one of the most interesting technical features of the crystal skull is the presence of elaborate lenses and prisms in the depths of the eye sockets. And if the skull is placed over the candle, then thin rays of light will emanate from the eye sockets, which is undoubtedly a breathtaking sight.

Mitchell Hedges crystal skull. Mayan crystal skull mystery

A number of researchers are convinced that the mysterious skulls are somehow related to the Maya. However, it is obvious that these people could not make them on their own. The most daring researchers are convinced that the Mayan crystal skull is the result of the work of a high-tech civilization, and the Mayans were only its keepers.

However, crystal skulls are treated differently: someone sees in them only a work of art, someone considers them the key to the invisible world. However, some archaeologists do not exclude the existence of a connection between the danger posed by the Mayan treasures and the aforementioned crystal skulls, and therefore they are very careful about this mysterious land. Indeed, the seekers of Mayan treasures hidden in the Mexican jungle are subject to a special danger that is difficult to explain from a rationalistic point of view. So, in 1974, sixteen scientists, led by Mitchell-Hedges, explored the ancient Mayan city, and then suddenly disappeared. In 1997, eight Italians went to the same area (Yucatan Peninsula), specially buying land in this area in order to search for Mayan treasures. They managed to clear the territory and clear the ancient city of thickets, which they were looking for.

However, the material of the crystal skull is an insoluble mystery for modern science. Technologies of a completely different order were used here. This was felt by the adventurers who did not have time to feel the desired joy - it was replaced by fear and anxiety. While examining the ruins of the city (in the area of the pyramid), they found sixteen skeletons without heads. Some of them still had remnants of clothing, and the personal belongings of the deceased were scattered at a short distance. Among the items found was a closed plastic bag containing documents and Mitchell-Hedges diaries. The diaries described supernatural phenomena, which the professor witnessed. The mission of the expedition was to search for the mysterious crystal skull of Kukulkan. This skull, according to legends, made it possible to see the past and the future, and, apparently, he was discovered by the expedition. But, from that moment, terrible phenomena began to occur. In the beginning, the British lost food and tools, and then, like in a terrible movie, people began to die in a mystical way. Mitchell-Hedges wrote in his diaries that an insurmountable wall of trees and poisonous thorny plants had grown around them at an inexplicable speed. People were exhausted and were no longer able to do something. Every new day, another member of the expedition died. Literally the following happened. Someone invisible came at night and beheaded the sleeping in complete darkness, after which they were found sitting in the amphitheater in the morning. Mitchell-Hedges suggested that, probably, the same Kukulkan, decided to take revenge on people who dared to encroach on the mystery of the crystal skull, although they had already returned the skull to the place where they had taken it earlier,- under the altar. The diary noted that at the time of compilation of these entries, there were only five members of the expedition.

The Italian researchers, having read this diary, were horrified and immediately began to gather back. But, curiosity prevailed over reason. Despite such a formidable warning, everyone wanted to at least look at the legendary skull. After all, they now knew where he was, and they did not even need to look for him. It was a Mayan crystal skull covered with gilding (the so-called "golden skull"). Forgetting all caution and warnings of the professor, people, as if hypnotized, viewed the artifact. Small cells appeared on the surface of the skull, in which changing images appeared, like paintings come to life. This act became fatal for researchers. Instead of treasures, they found death in the jungle. None of those who looked at the crystal skull returned to their homeland - the members of the expedition were found decapitated …
