The tragic fire that caused terrible damage to one of the wonders of architecture - the Parisian Cathedral of Notre Dame, has responded with pain in the hearts of people around the world.

People grieved over the disaster that had happened, regardless of religion or whether they had a chance to see the famous cathedral with their own eyes. The cathedral's iconic towers, stunning artwork, and eerie gargoyles have made it world famous and revered.

During the long history of the cathedral, a lot has been said about the strange events taking place in it. Everyone who comes to Paris sooner or later learns that this city is filled with ghosts, mysterious entities, and Notre Dame Cathedral is a popular place in tourist "mystical tours", being inhabited by many ghosts.

The construction of the cathedral began in 1163 and was completed in 1345. Already in the 12th century, the first stories of ghosts associated with it appeared. They talked about a certain craftsman who was hired to make locks for all the doors of the cathedral, as well as for everything else that had to be locked.

It was an important job for the Catholic Church, the most powerful organization in Europe at the time, and the master was under incredible stress from it. According to legend, in order to cope with all the work on time, the master turned to the devil for help, and he agreed to provide it. The work was completed, and a few days later the master died, and his ghost has since wandered around the cathedral.

A similar story from the 13th century tells of a young blacksmith named Biscorne. He was hired to decorate the doors of the cathedral. Fearing that he might not do the job, he made a deal with the devil, who helped him in exchange for his soul. When the doors were presented to the customer, they were tightly closed and did not want to open in any way. One of those present guessed to splash holy water on them, and this freed the doors and saved the blacksmith from his connection with the devil. Since then, those doors have been called "damned".

Another famous story is about a woman who came to see the cathedral in 1882. The guards refused her request to climb one of the towers because she was alone. According to legend, the girl found an old woman, with whom she went upstairs only to throw herself down. Her ghost was often seen on that tower, at the top or near the gargoyles.

Another addition to the ghosts of Notre Dame was Maria Antonieta Rivas Mercado Castellanos, a Mexican writer who was abandoned by her lover in Paris and who then shot herself on the cathedral's altar. Another famous ghost of the cathedral is Louis Vierne, an organist who died in 1937 while playing the cathedral's organ, nearly finishing his 1750th concert.
