The fact is that 164 years earlier, in 1606, the Dutch navigator Willem Janszun landed on the coast of Australia. In addition, during the 17th century, another 29 Dutch sailors explored the western and southern coasts of Australia. They called this continent "New Holland". The most famous of them are William Dampierre (in 1688) and Willem de Vlaming (in 1696). There is even a version that the Portuguese discovered Australia in the 20s of the 16th century.
Why this information was ignored and J. Cook was made the discoverer is a mystery. Perhaps this is all the historical intrigue for the right to own this continent.
