“I don’t know”, “genial” and “through-chyur” - perhaps this is the way we will see words in newspapers in five years, when the current first-year students of the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University receive their diplomas. Such phenomenal results were demonstrated by the students recruited with the help of the Unified State Exam, among whom there are even 100-point students. As expected, the screening work of recruits in universities turned into a scandal. Anastasia Nikolaeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Stylistics of the Russian Language, told MK in more detail.
Freshmen of the Faculty of Journalism have just written a test dictation in the Russian language. Did they confirm the assessments they received?
- We write setting dictations to identify the level of knowledge of freshmen every year. Usually 3-4 people cannot cope with them. But the results of this year have been monstrous. Out of 229 freshmen, only 18% made 8 or fewer mistakes per page of text. The remaining 82%, including 15 hundred-point students of the USE, made an average of 24-25 mistakes. Almost every word contains 3-4 mistakes, distorting its meaning beyond recognition. It is simply impossible to understand many words. In fact, these are not words, but their conditional reproduction.

- Well, what, for example, do you think, a knight? Rummage. Or, say, a patient (patient), it will be possible (will succeed), vrochi (doctors), I don’t know (I don’t know), genial, through-chur, orrestat. And all these are pearls of students from the strong 101st and 102nd groups of the newspaper department. The elite, so to speak. Meanwhile, 10% of the words they wrote in the dictation are not. These are more rock signs than a letter. You know, I've been giving dictations for 20 years, but I've never seen anything like this. I keep all dictations as material evidence. As a matter of fact, this year we recruited aliens.
Did you really have such a weak set?
- The fact of the matter is that it is formally strong: the average score in the Russian language is 83. That is, not just “five”, but “super five”, since the excellent mark in the Russian language this year started from 65 points. And this is very bad, because when the guys fill up the first session, they will tell us: “You got a“super product”. And now the guys cannot reproduce simple Russian words. How did you manage to make super-excellent super-twos ?!” By the way, this year, thanks to the Unified State Exam, the winners of the Olympiads and gold medalists were unable to enter the full-time department: they all study in the evening. There are few Muscovites. However, the faculty of journalism still has a sin to complain. We managed to cut off some of the most hopeless students with the help of a creative competition. But what I got, say, the philological faculty, it's scary to even think about. This is a national disaster!
- What is its reason?

- To some extent, in the "Albany" Internet language. However, the main problem is the USE. According to the freshmen, for the last three years at school they have not read books or written dictations with essays - all the time they just practiced inserting the missing letters and ticking the boxes. As a result, they can not only write, but also cannot read: the request to read a short passage from the book baffles them. Plus colossal gaps in basic knowledge. For example, a complete lack of understanding of the historical process: they say that the university was founded in the last, XX century, but under the Empress Catherine.
Can you do something about this?
- Following the results of the dictation, a meeting of the faculty academic council was held. We develop emergency measures for educational programs. We will, of course, do what we can, but we must understand: it is more and more difficult to compensate for the gaps with age, and the children will most likely come to light. And there are no hours for these classes in our curriculum. So, I'm afraid someone will have to be expelled, although the guys are not morons, but victims of serious pedagogical neglect.
Can you lose many?
- I do not exclude that every fifth freshman. The Unified State Exam destroyed our education in the bud. This is a shameless deception on a national scale. A harsh, inhuman experiment that was carried out on normal healthy children, and we will pay for it in full measure. After all, people who can neither write nor speak, go to all specialties: doctors, nuclear physicists. And this is not the worst thing. Children don't understand the meaning of each other's writing. And this means that we are heading towards the loss of adequate communication, without which society cannot exist. We are faced with something terrible. And this is not the edge of the abyss: we are already at the bottom. By the way, the guys themselves understand that things are bad, they want to learn, they are ready to run on additional classes. With some, for example, we wrote a dictation in the form of a love note. The girls made 15 mistakes and burst into tears.
