Mexican resident Maria de la Luz (Maria de la Luz) said that she is six months pregnant. The 70-year-old woman showed reporters the ultrasound scans, but pregnancy needs to be officially documented to establish a record, according to the Daily Mail. “I was told it was a girl. Look, you can see her little face in the picture,”de la Luz shared with reporters.
The woman did not provide any details of her pregnancy and did not specify if she had used artificial insemination technology. According to de la Luz, she assumed she was pregnant three months ago. This news came as a surprise to her. “My legs ached, my head was spinning, I felt sick. Doctors of private and public clinics performed about 10 ultrasound examinations. They couldn't believe it,”she told local journalists.
This child will be the eighth for Maria de la Luz. Her grown children were not happy about the news, claiming that she was too old for childbirth. The gynecologists De la Luz contacted expect a woman to have a caesarean section because of her age.
If the birth is successful, the Mexican will beat the record of another elderly mother, Maria Del Carmen Bousada de Lara, for four years. In 2006, a 66-year-old woman from Spain became the mother of twin boys. The Guardian newspaper wrote that she resorted to IVF in a California clinic, for which she lied about her age. The previous record holder died at the age of 69 from ovarian cancer, leaving her two-year-old sons in the care of relatives.
