The Russian Ministry of Health has received an appeal from the All-Russian political party "Honestly" to conduct a national study: is homosexuality a mental illness.

As it became known to Constantinople, a deputy of the State Duma of the last convocation and chairman of the "Honestly" party Roman Khudyakov prepared an appeal addressed to the Minister of Health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova (available to Constantinople) with a request to conduct a national independent study on whether homosexuality is a mental illness.

Even 20 years ago, the Ministry of Health had no doubts on this score: homosexuality was officially considered a mental illness in Russia. But in 1999, the ministry depatologized this phenomenon. Nevertheless, some professional psychiatrists and sexologists consider gays to be people with mental disorders, and many experts believe that in 1999 the authorities succumbed to Western trends and the so-called “blue lobby”.

- noted Roman Khudyakov.

If the Ministry of Health confirms that homosexuality is a mental illness, then, according to Russian legislation, the right to engage in certain types of activities will automatically be restricted for people with a non-traditional orientation.

- sums up the politician.

Homosexuality has traditionally been considered a mental illness. In the international classification of diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO), up to and including its 9th edition, homosexuality was classified as a disease belonging to the group of psychosexual disorders.

The situation began to change in the United States in the late 1940s. Feminist organizations and gay movements have sprung up and have zealously pursued the recognition of same-sex lovers as “healthy” people.

As a result, in 1973, the board of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) voted to exclude homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. WHO lasted almost 20 more years, and only in 1992 stopped considering same-sex relationships as pathology. After that, homosexuals were recognized as mentally healthy in many countries of the world, including in 1999 in Russia.

The famous sexologist, professor at the Institute of Psychoanalysis Alexander Poleev noted that there is still no consensus among psychiatrists and sexologists as to whether homosexuality is a mental disorder.

- said Poleev.

In Russia, the promotion of homosexuality among minors has been prohibited by law since June 30, 2013. In the period from 2014 to 2016, 14 people were charged with an administrative fine for promoting non-traditional sexual relations. In June 2017, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that the Russian law prohibiting the promotion of homosexuality among minors is discriminatory and violates the right to freedom of expression.

Whether the Russian society needs the self-expression of gay people is a big question. As the saying goes, if a man considers himself Napoleon, he is isolated and treated, but if a man considers himself a woman, for some reason he goes to parades. It is up to the Ministry of Health to sort out this absurdity.

Observing the degradation of Western society, where it is time to talk about the oppression of people with a traditional orientation by gays, Russian society still treats sodomites with a slight irony. In order not to be in the minority soon, it is time to change irony to, at least, caution. And you can start by answering the question of why mental deviation was considered a disease for decades, and suddenly became the norm in the era of the late Yeltsin, who did not understand anything.
