In the Karelian forests and lakes, according to legend, strange creatures live, goblin, mermaids. On the eve of All Saints' Day, "Runa" collected several stories about unusual meetings and terrible visions that happened in the republic.

A voice in the fog
The family's trip from St. Petersburg to Karelia ended with a fright for life. Having reached the swamp in the Medvezhyegorsk region, they walked deep into the forest.
Mother and son began to pick berries, while the father of the family and his brother-in-law went hunting. At four o'clock in the afternoon, the family returned to the car and prepared to drive back, but the car would not start. No matter how hard the men tried to understand what the matter was, nothing came of it. Then the woman and her brother went to the nearest village for help, and the father and son began to set up a tent in a clearing nearby. Suddenly a fog crept from the side of the swamp. Both suddenly became creepy and scary. Suddenly, from afar, sad female singing was heard. Both men decided to roll up the tent and spend the night in the car. The singing grew louder. It was impossible to make out the words, a simple melody, somewhat similar to the title theme of the TV show “Good night, kids”, only sad and mournful. They began to clean up the tent, and at that moment the father screamed in a frantic voice. He sat down on the ground and began to point towards the swamp. From there, hundreds of silhouettes stared at the men. They did not move, but a silvery glow emanated from them in all directions. The men rushed to the car, when they reached the car, the fog cleared. It became quiet and calm around. The family left for St. Petersburg only in the morning when the mother and her brother returned to the parking lot.
The sorcerer's diary
Petrozavodsk is also full of mystical stories. In the late 90s, a sorcerer died in a local hospital. According to the stories of the townspeople, the man communicated with evil spirits for many years, sometimes helped to heal people, and sometimes caused damage.
The sorcerer had a notebook where he regularly wrote down recipes for various drugs and conspiracies. When the man died, a ghost began to visit his relatives every evening. The ghost moved restlessly around the house, waving its arms, tore out clumps of hair from its head. The sorcerer seemed to be trying to explain something, but could not. The visits continued until one of the relatives realized that the sorcerer needed his notebook. Having found out that it was useless to burn and drown her, the relatives decided to bury her in the sorcerer's grave. Arriving at the cemetery, they began to bury the sorcerer's diary, when suddenly there was a loud laughter. The family threw down their shovels and ran away from the grave. True, after that the ghost did not torment them anymore.
Pray for me
Quite often, ghosts are seen in one of the hostels of the Karelian capital. Students are accustomed to voices and strange images, but they terrify new tenants.
Both ghosts appeared here after tragic episodes. About 20 years ago, a young man committed suicide in his room. Since then, on different floors, residents from time to time hear a voice that asks to pray for him. As eyewitnesses say, if you light a candle in a church, the whispering will stop for two or three weeks, but then it will return. And in the basement of the same hostel, they often see the ghost of a girl. She became a victim of rape, could not stand the incident and committed suicide. The ghost can be seen in the fall and winter if you go down to the basement.
