We have all seen the films from the “Destination” series and heard such an expression as “you cannot escape fate”. People get out alive from extremely dangerous situations - and soon die for some completely ridiculous reason.
Life and death are always inseparable. But these stories look too bizarre to speak of a mere coincidence. Today we will talk about people who cheated death, but soon it overtook them anyway.
10. Hilda Yolanda Maillol
Hilda Yolanda Maillol worked in a restaurant at the World Trade Center. Fortunately, she worked on the first level and managed to escape during the tragic 9/11 attacks. Unfortunately, her luck did not last long. She was one of the 265 people killed in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in New York on November 12, 2001, just two months after the terrorist attacks.
Mayol was 26 years old and flew to the Dominican Republic to spend some time with her mother and children. There were rumors that there were other people who survived the 9/11 attacks when this flight crashed. However, these rumors have never been confirmed.

9. E Meng Yuan
In 2013, when Ye Meng Yuan boarded Asiana Airlines Flight 214, she was 16 years old. She was heading from China to Southern California for summer camp, but tragedy struck.
Her plane crashed on landing, crashing into an embankment just in front of the runway. Yuan was injured but survived. She managed to get out of the plane, she lay on the ground, but she was run over by a fire truck. As a result, Ye Meng Yuan died.
Firefighters rushed to the places of extinguishing several fires at once and simply did not notice the girl lying on the ground.
In total, three people died in the crash, and one of them was Yuan.
Many lawsuits have been filed against the airline, including from Ye Meng Yuan's parents. However, two years after the incident, the parents dropped the lawsuit. Their lawyer said: "The parties have come to a confidential settlement on mutually acceptable terms."
8. Fagil Mukhametzyanova
Everyone makes mistakes, don't they? But sometimes mistakes are also pleasant. In 2011, after 49-year-old Fagil Mukhametzyanova fell at home with a heart attack, the doctor pronounced her dead …
However, she did not die. I mean, not right away … Mukhametzyanova came to her senses in a coffin, at her own funeral. She began to scream and then collapsed again, this time with a second heart attack. She was taken to the hospital. Her husband recalls: “Her eyes fluttered, and we immediately rushed back to the hospital. But she lived in intensive care for only 12 minutes. She died again, and this time for sure. I am very angry and want all the answers. He is very upset and plans to sue the doctors.
7. David Furr
On December 13, 1977, the University of Evansville Purple Aces men's basketball team was heading to Tennessee State University at Murfreesboro for a match. Shortly after takeoff, their twin-engined plane lost control and crashed into a nearby field. All 29 people died.
Twenty-five people died immediately after the crash. Three people died at the crash site later, and one person died in the hospital. The entire team was killed … except one player. Freshman David Furr survived because of an ankle injury, he did not fly with the whole team.
Probably, it could be called good luck, but it did not last long. Two weeks after the crash, David Furr and his brother were hit and killed by a drunk driver. His death meant that by the end of 1977, all members of the Purple Aces basketball team had already passed away.
6. Jessica Gavi
Jessica Gavi, better known professionally as Jessica Redfield, was an aspiring sports commentator who escaped during a mass shooting that took place in June 2012 at the Eaton Center cafe in Toronto. She ordered food and decided to go outside instead of sitting down and eating everything on the spot.
A few minutes after her departure, a shooter appeared and opened fire on the hall, as a result of which two people were killed and many were injured. After that, she stated that some strange premonition made her go out into the street, and it saved her life.
However, a month later, Jessica Gavi was killed in a mass shooting in Ororo, Colorado. The shooting took place in a cinema, during the night viewing of "The Dark Knight", then 12 people were killed.
5. Bobby Leach
Bobby Leach was a stuntman, so his entire career was associated with dangerous activities. While performing one of his most famous stunts, he almost died. He jumped off Niagara Falls in a barrel.
The waterfall jump is a trick that daredevils such as Sam Patch and Annie Edson Taylor have already performed. The secret to success was that you needed some kind of protection when landing.
Unfortunately, after the first successful jumps, many people died trying to repeat them. However, Bobby Leach did not stop it. He made a steel barrel, climbed inside and jumped into Niagara Falls. The Lich survived, but he spent six months in the hospital recovering from his injuries.
After this feat, Leach became a public figure. He toured the world talking about his jump. However, death caught up with him in a rather unexpected way.
In 1926, he slipped on an orange peel after a lecture in New Zealand. The injury ultimately ended with the death of the famous stuntman. His injuries after the fall led to an infection, requiring a leg amputation. After the operation, he began to weaken, his health continued to deteriorate. Leach died on April 26, 1926.
4. Phyllis Jean Readings and Elsie Warren
Phyllis Jean Readings, 52, and her father, 70-year-old Elsie Warren, survived a plane crash in 2007, but remained unharmed. They flew on a makeshift plane, the engine caught fire. They managed to crash land on a haystack. They were lucky, and at that moment Readings said: "I give credit to God and my father's flying skills."
Four years later, Readings and Warren were again involved in a similar incident. In 2011, they were members of the Aircraft Experimental Association and flew an experimental aircraft at the Texas Air Show.
Their cockpit began to smoke. They tried to make an emergency landing, but this time they failed. The plane crashed and caught fire. Both died.
3. Marcus Garvey
Marcus Garvey was the political leader of Jamaica, a supporter of the black nationalist movement and pan-Africanism. As the founder of the Black Star Line, he has inspired people around the world by teaching them about Africa's economic opportunities. He called his activity "Harveyism".
On June 10, 1940, Garvey read an obituary about himself. It stated that Garvey had passed away "broken, lonely and unpopular." After reading this, Garvey suffered a heart attack and actually died as a result. Although Garvey's case is somewhat unusual on our list, it is possible that he managed to foresee his own death in advance.
2. Johanna Ganthaler
Italian pensioner Johanna Ganthaler was vacationing in Brazil with her husband. They booked Air France flight 447 to Paris on May 31, 2009. The plane crashed into the Atlantic, killing all 228 people on board.
Gunthaler and her husband missed the flight and decided to head home. A day later, they flew to Europe and rented a car there to get home. As they drove through the Austrian city of Kufstein, their car drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a truck. Ganthaler later died in hospital. Her husband was seriously injured but survived.
1. Jessica de Lima Rohl
In 2013, a horrific fire in a Brazilian nightclub killed over 200 people and injured hundreds more. Jessica de Lima Rohl, 21, was one of the organizers of the party. That night, her friend asked Jessica to stay at home. She agreed, although she herself was one of the organizers.
This is probably what saved Rol's life. Hundreds of students were injured or killed after the acoustic covering caught fire from the ceiling fireworks.
A few days later, Rohl went to visit her boyfriend, who was at work. On the way back, the couple died in an accident. Police said their car collided with a truck. Rol died immediately, and her boyfriend died later in the hospital.
