Scientists at Duke University (USA) have found that among the generation X and millennials, a decrease in life expectancy and an increase in the risk of premature death are expected. This is reported by Science Daily.

Risk groups include people aged 38-45 (later Generation X) and ages 27-37 (Early Generation Y or millennials), according to the researchers. Experts analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1990-2016 to determine the likely causes of death.

According to experts, representatives of generation X and millennials faced the global financial crisis in 2008, experienced difficulties in finding a job, which significantly affected their health. The leading causes of death are suicide, drug overdose, alcohol abuse, diabetes, cancer, and road traffic accidents. However, factors vary with race, gender, and ethnicity.

In addition, experts have determined that among baby boomers, that is, representatives of the generation that appeared in the middle of the 20th century, there is also a high risk of death from drugs, road traffic accidents, homicide, suicide, HIV and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
